You know, I've read the transcript of that speech, but seeing the video takes it to another level. The creepy stare, the awkward pauses... wow. Cool. Thanks Chris!

He claimed it was his new vegetarian diet.

That, and his daily dose of LSD. :D

According to Eugene Landy's - sorry! - Brian Wilson's 'Wouldn't It Be Nice', Mike had been fasting for a week as part of the TM experience. Imagine being one of his neighbours.

Me, I'll just stick to the Tantric sex if that's ok with everyone.

Wow.

Perhaps he wiped out too many times when learning to surf!

Surprisingly, I didn't find it as obnoxious as it's been billed.

At least if this had been broadcast on TV, they would have shut off his mike, cut to an orchestra fanfare, and faded to black.

Jagger got revenge for us.

Later, when the jam started, Mike took off his shoes when he sang and left them onstage.
When Jagger was singing a few minutes later, he not-too-subtly gave them a kick and his shoes sailed off somewhere into the audience.

Just watch until the end.

I just don't understand Mike Love. He seems shrewd enough to sue Brian for things he had nothing to do with for 40 years but he speaks like a complete moron. It's almost as if he's been putting the public on with his "mean spiritied sardonic image" just because Brian is the "sincere" one, but I don't think it's a put on anymore. I know that in the early days when you listen to tracks like "Our Favorite Recording Sessions" or "Cassius Love Vs. Sonny Wilson" or even "Bull Session" that Mike always had an extremely dry sense of humor...he didn't care if anyone else was in on the joke...whereas Brian always seemed like he wanted everyone to be part of it, to be included.

This speech is classless and silly. He was the singer of "Americas Favorite Rock n Roll grop" and Mike Love still feels the need to retool the band's mythology to suit some preconceived notion (a la Ray Manzarek with Jim Morrison's legacy). "Me and Brian used to surf..." Yeah Mike, sure.
