Just got the holiday shopper from the stereo store i used to buy stuff from back when i had money (before i went back to school)
In it there is a new? Pioneer Elite player that plays SACD, DVD-A, DVD-A, DVD-V, CD, CR-R, CD-RW, MP3 (wish these players played those 3" laserdiscs too, i have a few of those) for $499.99. Does does anyone have one yet? If so how is the CD playback? I have both SACD, and DVD-A players (low end models), but if this is a jump up in sound quality i would be interested.
On the same page they advertise the Sony DVP-NS999ES SACD player for $1199.99 and the Denon DVD-9000 THX-Ultra DVD-A/V Player for $3499.99 (wish i was a good enough boy for Santa to bring one of those, along with a $11,999.99 50" plasma TV...)
Thanks

It's considered great with DVDA but lacking with SACD.

Are you sure about that? I thought that was the case with the 47A and that that 47Ai and the 45A were both much improved.

The reviews I have read still seem to say that the DVDA is fine but its not state of the art with SACD yet. Of course these people usually own the XA777es or the Phillips SACD100.
I'm sure for most set-ups, the 45A would be fine.

Well i read a review of this in the new Sound and Vision yesterday. The review didn't address how the player sounds, i knew little more about the player after reading the review than before. I did learn the reviewer thought the player looked "plain", and the video reproduction is excellent. It would have been helpful of the reviewer to compare with other players, or state anything about the quality of the sound reproduction....
There was an ad for the player, and pioneer is offering a free SACD of Bowie Heathen, or DVD-A of Fleetwwod Mac Rumors free with purchase.

I read that review in Sound & Vision too, and you're right, the reviewer didn't really go into much detail about the sound. He did, however, seem to like the general sound quality of the unit and he didn't really mention anything about differences in sound quality between DVD-A and SACD, nor did he mention that the machine did one any better than the other so....
