Steve,

I have seen you mention that the "Toga Rock" CD was DCC's best seller. I was wondering if you could let us know what some of the other "DCC best sellers" were?? It would be helpful to know when recommending titles from our end.

I remember you saying that the ELO and Heart Gold CDs didn't sell very well, which surprised me. It seems like you said the Queensryche disc sold well. This again, surprised me. I am a Queensryche fan, but I would have done Operation Mindcrime first. Shows how much I know!

I saw quite a few copies of the Merle Haggard, Marty Robbins, and Nilsson CDs in stores. I hope these all sold well. They were good releases, and I want Merle's "Kern River" on CD!!

If I am not mistaken, you said that the Jazz titles ALL lost money. This is very sad, because I never listened to jazz until I picked up a few of the DCC jazz titles. I asked members of the old board (two boards ago actually!) to recommend some titles, and I picked up three or four at first. I was so blown away that I probably have 15 DCC jazz gold discs now.

Anyway, I thought if we all had some idea as to what sold well, we might be able to make better suggestions. I think it is safe to say that ALL of us want to see the new label do well!!

Thanks for the great website and forum.

Take care,

Tony

Tony, thanks, but don't worry about sales potential. It's not all about money to S&P. If it was, we would be forming a different kind of record company.

You should all submit your lists regardless of potential sales. Let us worry about that. We always pick what we pick for a number of different reasons.

After all, think about it. The DCC Gold Jazz CD's sold poorly from the start, but we kept on licensing and releasing them. In fact, we released a ton of them, barely breaking even each time. Why? Because we LOVE the music, and had a few other titles that were big sellers for us, allowing us to take a chance.

So, not EVERY release has to be a money winner. It just takes a few to keep us strong and healthy.

Steve,

That is great news. I was going to have to bite down real hard before picking up that SACD of Britney Spears latest offering!!

Thanks,

Tony

Hi-ho Steverino!!! You mean there's hope for my beloved garage or RAB comps further on down the road??? I'm sure I can come up with some lulu tax write-offs for you folks! There's some mighty hi-fi lowbrow music floating around, and can you honestly say you've lived a full life until you've heard the immortal Tyrone Schmidling warble Honey Don't or Wombie Zombie by the mighty demented Billy Taylor?
