Hello All,
Does anyone have the best available price for the Sony 555ES SACD Player? I've been following the buzz...Look's like it's time. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Michael, I use that pricescan.com for everything to at least get an idea. The retailers listed by them are not all the retailers online. It does give me an idea, however.

Call Oades Brothers of Georgia, very good retailer and usually have the best prices. I believe the 555ES is now below $600 with shipping.
Phone 229-228-0093 or 229-228-4480
We are located at Oade Brothers Audio 316 S. Broad St. Thomasville, Ga. 31792

Oade Bros. are very reputable and offer an upgrade mod on the 555ES which comes to a total of $800 if you want the absolute best from that player. I'm sure they will mention the mod if you call.
But even un-modded the 555ES is the best SACD player at that price point.

JohnG, I'm thinking an SACD player myself.
What exactly is the upgrade mod?
Thx,

Mods usually improve the power supplies and add a better audio L- clock to the unit.
The upgrade on the 555ES brings that unit up to the flagship model the 777ES which costs around $2K.

Not quite sure what you meant here!?!?
If you check, you'll notice that they do very similar up-grading to similar parts in all of their up-grades.

Hey Dave,
I don't think that comment was meant for you.... it was meant for me. :)
Mud & I were just throwing sand at each other in Steve's sandbox. It was harmless fun that we both enjoy. Mud has a great sense of humor and plays well with others! Ask him, he'll tell ya. :D

If you can wait a bit or shop around more, I've seen the 555ES discounted locally to $400. I've heard that Sony is blowing out their SACD players - maybe for new models. The earlier ones didn't play CDRs.
This forum convinced me to get a SACD deck. I passed on the 555ES and picked up a 900V (DVD/SACD/CD/CDR) for $499.

Yo Dave, that was not a wise-assed comment directed to you.
It was, however, directed to Jeffrey.:D

Hey, the 555ES is a great player and well worth the money. I paid way more than $600 for mine when I got it, and I still think it was worth it. Oade Brothers are great, that's where I got mine, they ship it very well too. They pack it extremely well and you can be sure it will reach you in perfect condition. One other thing, I think someone mentioned before that it didn't play CD-R's, well it does play CD-R's and CD-RW's as well.
