GEORGE HARRISON TO BE KNIGHTED

Beatle George Harrison will receive the first ever posthumous Knighthood in the Queen's Birthday Honours list in June.
The award will be received by Harrison's widow Olivia in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

It's the second honour for Harrison from the Queen.
In 1965 he was given the MBE along with the other three Beatles. But John Lennon eventually returned his award in protest at Britain's involvement in the Biafran war.

Harrison died on November 29, 2001 after a long battle against cancer.
Harrison's 1972 hit My Sweet Lord is due to be re-released by EMI in 2002.

Can Sir Ringo be far behind?

Sir Ringo will not be long, Steve, I can guarantee that.

But, if George was alive, would he had accepted it?

That's a VERY good point.

I think so, and he, with his sense of humour, would have made a great speech too.
And, evebn though Sir Ringo sounds cooler, that would be Sir Richard (but I'm sure you all knew that). :D :D

I think it would be damned classy of the Queen to give posthumous knighthood to John as well! If she's giving one to George, John's certainly overdue! ;)

I can see how the honor is trivialized with appointments like these, and the culture weakened.

It's nothing to be proud of.

Then I'd like a Knighthood for Dirk, Stig,
and Nasty. And the 5th Rutle (Leppo) as well.
