That is Kavichandran Alexander, owner of Water Lily Acoustics.

Could the tape machine in the back be an Ampex MR70? I know he owns one.

That's actually a 21st-Century prototype of Commander Data. :p

Yes, the one in back certainly looks like an Ampex; I'm assuming the part is the front is a custom sump'in-or-other.

The one in the front is a Nagra, isn't it?

Hi all,

The front machine is a Nagra T mastering deck. The rear machine is an Ampex ATR series from the looks of it. The photo needs to show more of it. It's definitely not an MR 70 deck which looks more like a 300 on steroids with AG-300 styled electronics. Less than a few hundred MR-70 machines were made. This was a severely expensive deck in the day. Most of them were 2 track or full track. An MR-70-2 was around $6500 new in console then. You could get a plain AG 300-2 for about $3000 then in console.

That is definitely not an Ampex ATR, it has a pinch roller. This is a picture of my Ampex ATR-102.

Hi Joe,

You are right! I am beginning to think that the other machine doesn't look like an Ampex. I am thinking that it may be more like a Lyrec or Stellavox mastering deck. The deck is more European styled.

Might be a Telefunken of some kind.

Both machines are Stellavox, the front is a sp 8 portable that have a big reel adaptor attached for 10,5 inch reels. The machine in the background are a Stellavox TD 9 stationary machine, very good in all aspects.
