Would DCC or S&P do a Fats Domino disc?

I've got the box set from Capitol, and I've always been a bit disappointed by the sound. I hear the Bear box set is better and, unlike the Capitol one, still being pressed, but it's kind of pricey.

Matt,

That's hilarious as I myself was just thinking of posting in regards to Fats Domino after listening to an album of his on cd last night as was thinking how nice several 50's artists would/should be treated to the ole' "Breath of life" al la Hoffman.:D

Do you think another Fats would sell after all the stuff that is out there on him? We gotta make some money. None of us were born rich, I'm sorry to say.

I love Fats. I'd like to do the Red Two-LP set that was on UA back in the 1970's...

With "20 Cadence Classics," the "Heartaches & Harmonies" box set, "Complete Cadence Recordings," and "16 All-Time Greatest Hits" all available at the time of DCC's "Everly Brothers' Best" was released, would the sales of the latter be a good indicator how well a Fats Domino disc may do?

Badly, actually. But it sure was fun to do (as would Fats be)...

I actually own the Bear Family box set, and to be honest, I completely love it. A few years back when I was living on the West Coast I surprisingly found a used copy at a little indie music store and picked it up out of curiousity as I only really knew a handful of Fats tunes. A week later, after listening to all 8 CD's, I can say I became a real fan. This music is just great ! If you're looking for just the hits, stick with the a comp. CD, but if you like what you have heard and are curious to hear more, you just might love this box set as much as I do. I have a fair share of Bear Family sets and I can honestly say they do a great job with all their releases. The Fats Domino and Louis Jordan sets are really amazing. Great sound, well written books, and great packaging (all jewel cases, which I personally prefer to some of the hokey packaging U.S. record labels are currently doing with their box sets !). I've yet to be disappointed with Bear Family.

Best - ED

Steve, what about oldies comps crammed full of hits like those Ace monsters? Since we're paying a premium to get your magic touch, I'd betcha that we loyal fans wouldn't mind a slightly more expensive comp that goes 70+ minutes to cover the licensing fees. Little Richard, Fats, E. Bros, and some Sun stuff all mixed up would make a tasty stew!!!

Way too much Fats out there, you can/could get 1991 4 CD box or the 8 CD Bear Family or the 4 volumes of "The Imperial Singles" on Ace out of the U.K.Whew!! and that's just of the top of my head !!

There was a Dale Hawkins LP in that same UA series if I remember correctly that wasn't half bad either.

Hi Steve,
Long time fan here (since 1985)...just joined your forum after browsing the DCC forum for a year or so.
I would "pre-order" the Red Two-LP Fats set on vinyl if you did it. Any chance of S&P doing a two-LP Everly Bros. hits? I love the DCC gold CD, but vinyl is what I prefer.
Glad to see this year starting with a lot of promise: S&P, Classic, Analogue Productions, Music Direct's MFSL, Four Men with Beards, Sundazed, Speakers Corner, German Universal, German ARS,...so much vinyl...so little money.
