Just for fun---There's no replacing Roy or George but if you could choose two musicians that fit the remaining group who would you choose. Doc's choices of the moment would be John Fogerty and Neil Young.

I agree with those two. It's too bad nothing with Fogerty as a legitimate Willbury's release got through.

it came to mind after my first post that Clapton would fit nicely also

I always thought that John Fogerty would have been great with the Wilburys.
I hadn't considered Bonnie Raitt, but that is a good idea. I guess she could be the red haired step child.
John Prine might make for an interesting song or two.

Chris Isaak to fill Roy's spot and either Patrick Walters or Jamie Hoover of the SpongeTones (now defunct?) to take George's place.
(note to Steve: do a gold remaster of The SpongeTones "Beat & Torn" !!!)

What about John Haitt or Mark Knoffler?

Bob, Neil and George. Sounds amazing just saying it. I think George was really happy then - I'd like to think of him that way.
God Bless.

I think George had a specific idea of "who" or "what" a Wilbury was. He was asked several times (after Orbison's death) if Clapton would be a new Wilbury and he kept saying that Eric could never be a Wilbury. I think at some point Roger McQuinn wanted to be one but maybe it wasn't in his genes. I think part (small part) of the reason they started the Wilburys was to try and help Dylan's career (I love "Tweeter & the Monkey Man"/poking fun at Bruce in some verses/concept). George was asking listeners to support Dylan by buying his records on that 1987 Rockline show. Who knows...
