Has anyone with this unit had problems playing this disc? I got it yesterday and it won't play.
It's probably just as well, because I have the EPROM upgrade letter to send it in for service,
and haven't gotten around to it.Is it wise to send a sample bad disc when packing up the unit?

Mine won't play either, and, of course, I haven't taken it in for the upgrade......I kept thinking Pioneer would finally post the file for us to perform our own upgrade......guess they are more stubborn than I thought!

I do have an Audigy card on my PC, so I can listen to it that way, I suppose!

Has anybody tried this: Potential Upgrade disk for Pioneer 563a (http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showpost.php?p=1532917&postcount=148)

There was another thread recently where someone brought their 563a in for repair, and they left the disc in the drawer. Secveral of us asked the poster to report back. I can't find that thread!

If I recall that thread correctly, the disc that the service department left in the player was just an ordinary pre-recorded music CD and not the firmware upgrade disc (the poster cleared up the confusion).

Has anyone used this on a 563A machine??

I got the upgrade but I still have one disc that gives my problems (Eagles: Hotel California DVD-A). My player (563A) will play the 5.1 tracks fine but won't play the High Resolution Stereo tracks.

Thanks!

Anyone know if this firmware upgrade will also fix the Pioneer DV-565A (which I think is the European version of the 563a)?

Is there a real dummies version of a simple program so I can burn this ISO file to a CD-R. All I get is that it can't play the disc. :sigh: I did try to install/use WinImage, but it's just way too complex for me.

Dave, I don't have one either. I just had a friend who has the software mentionned in the link burn me a copy of theupgrade disk. I hope that I get a chance to try it this weekend. FIrst I have to get me a DVD-a. If it works, I can send you a copy.

Fireburner used to seem easy to me:

Nero burns ISO too. Just go to File > Open image (or something like that) and select the iso file.

I just burned it on my Mac with Toast 7. Funny, OSX wouldn't open it with Disk Mount or Disk Utility. Toast had no problem.

One guy in on quadraphonicquad.com got it to work. Seems pretty straight forward.

I just tried it and it worked! I'm listening to the 2-channel high-res Goodbye Yellow Brick Road DVD-A as I type. This would not play before, nor would T.Rex Electric Warrior, which also plays now.

I burned the image to a CD using Nero, popped it in the 563, and held my breath. I didn't do anything else. A screen came up and it went through a bunch of steps by itself as I watched. Maybe a minute or two. When it finished, it said it was successful and asked me to shut off the player and restart it. I did, and and started up as usual, and I started breathing again.

PLEASE don't blame me if you try this and it fails! I'm just sharing that it worked for me...

Good Luck!

Dave

All I can say is thank you, thank you, thank you for posting that link. It was nice to finally hear Electric Warrior and Brothers In Arms in all of their 5.1 hi-rez glory.

Don't blame me either! :D Really... use at your own risk. I am not responsible for your 563a.
