Can anyone shed any light on this subject?
Is it me...or the player...or the software.
I cannot get to the stereo playlist on "Invincible Summer"/k.d. lang
or Natalie Merchants DVD-A. Any suggestions?

Since many DVD-A discs, when the menu isn't employed, will automatically default to DVD-A multi-channel, I was wondering--obvious as this is--if you hit the top menu. If you go there and there isn't a listing for stereo playback, the only conclusion is that there isn't a 2-track stereo option. . I have a Panasonic deck, too, and hitting top menu will get you to the main page and all the options.

Thanks, Ed...
I did try that and NO stereo option made available...
Even though the packaging says so...
I will research further...

:( Wish I could be of more help. However, there IS one more thing: are you hooked directly to the 6-channel analog input of your receiver or amp? If you're hooked to Dolby Digital 5.1 inputs only, that's the ONLY mix you'll get and the only choice that will pop up on your menu. I know, because before I bought my DVD-A player, I played my early discs on a regular DVD player hooked up to a DD-capable receiver. In this format, only that mix will show on your screen or play back. Unlike DTS, but like SACD, you must have that 6-channel input--a separate entity from any other mode of your receiver--to access the high resolution DVD-A multi sound OR the stereo mix I thought all WEA discs have(I believe this is stupid, by the way: a regular redbook(CD-capable)track should also be included so anyone can play back the discs, not just DVD player owners). I wish I had either one of the discs you have for reference, but I'm a rocker by nature and neither kd or Nat knock my socks off(I do respect them for what they are, but respect doesn't mean purchase--unless I find them used and really cheap).
By all means let me know how it turns out. And, not being the ultra-geek techie some of the SH chatters are(that's a compliment to those so blessed)best of luck and let us know ASAP if what I suggested worked. If not, all you can do is say: Steve Hoffman, SAVE MY ***!! Cause SH is The Man.

My Panasonic allows me to choose a DD menu or a DVD-A menu.
The DVD-A menu only plays multichannel...I will play with it more tonight.

 Are you sure you guys have a true multi-channel receiver/amp ready for DVD-A or SACD? I'm getting the vibes that you don't, and it's essential; otherwise, DD 5.1 is all you're gonna get. Period. For the record, my Panasonic deck is XV-D723, directly patched to the 6-channel input of my Harmon-Kardon, and 2-channel input sent to the CD output of the player(the video line is fed directly to the TV).The optical cable figures in as well, but don't ask me how--it's been over a year since I set it all up, and that took a lot of hours to do, because the receiver was new to me too!

I don't think there *is* a dedicated stereo mix for the merchant Tigerlily disc. Some of he early DVD-A lacked them (e.g., Brain Salad Surgery). On these, you might be able to generate a 'fold down' of the surrond mix, but that's it.

You can't mix DVD and redbook CD on the same disc, AFAIK.
And technically you only need 6 channel pasthrough input to access the *unadulterated* DVD-A layer. If yo have a DVD-A player there's often still a stereo output to both the analog jacks and the digital jack, though it's a downsample (from high rez to 'only' 44/16).
you can't access teh DVD-A layer at all with a regular DVD player, though.

I don't have either disc but it sounds like they didn't put a stereo mix on there. The very early DVDA's were a mixed bag.

You are right...There is no stereo playlist on the k.d. lang or the Natalie
Merchant...THAT'S DUMB!!! :realmad:
I don't give a s**t about mutichannel...I just want the hi rez stereo!!!

 Sounds to me as if WEA began DVD-A releases as if they were Silverline today....I suppose we should be grateful they wised up and did do the hi-res stereo track for the others. Didn't realize those two particular DVD-As didn't have one. Explains a lot, but for anybody without the hi-res setup, understandably frustrating.
BTW, have any of you heard any stereo hi-res that sounded remixed? Generally, I find the DVD-As usually use the original mix for an album(as with RUMOURS), but I suspect both Dead's are remixed in 2-channel. There may be others out there. Any ideas? Thanks.
