Pat,

Don't sell them (unless you really have to). Put them in storage and you'll be happy about it in the future. You can pull them out in 2020 and listen down memory lane. My parents had to sell a majority of their collection during the mid-60's when they were out of work (my dad was a DJ and his station went from doo-op to spanish talk). They sold tons of "promo" Blue Notes (they were also in demand then), 50's rock (Buddy Holly/Elvis/painfully etc.), jazz, the lists pours on and on. From time to time, I still hear the regret in there voices when they (divorced for nearly 3 decades) talk about "the collection". Keep them if ya can...

Wow... I've been put to shame....and I thought my collection was large...

Currently around 1600 cds (not including the 150 or so that got stolen in 1987, also not counting the 500 unburned Kodak gold CDRs sitting in my den :-)).

Maybe 50 gold CDs, mostly DCC, maybe a dozen mofi.

Maybe 300-400 LPs - all from my youth, and around 100 45s (also from my youth).

I also have several hundred cassettes, reel-to-reel, and CDR archives of everything my brother and I recorded from when we were 7 years old to present (the present being mostly Holy Zoo multitracks and live rehearsal tapes). It all takes up quite a bit of space. Someday if I ever build that dream house, a proper temperture/humidity controlled room will have to be part of the design. :)

I own the about 100 LPs from vinyl... rarities like CCR's Cosmo's Factory or Rickie Lee Jones' first. I also have collected the complete DCC titles on vinyl.

I own about 1700 CDs... under it appr. 670 Gold CDs (complete collection of Analogue Productions, Atlantic, DCC, GRP, MCA, MFSL, RCA, Sony etc.)

First time I bothered looking at this thread.

What I have:

over 4000 CDs (been collecting since
Dec. 1984)

around 800 LPs (I sold many in the 80s but
have aquired many more in recent years
used)

around 500 45s (I dumped many of them once I
got them on CD.)

somewhere around 30 prerecorded cassettes

hundreds of homemade cassettes

a stack of old 8-track cartrdges somewhere
storage

somewhere around 40 homemade DAT tapes

exactly 4 open reel tapes (my reel to reel

50+ 45's
50+ 78's
350+ 33's
450+ CD's

On a small tube RCA 45 player (c.'57) sits my first record purchase, the Beatles "Yellow Submarine/Eleanor Rigby" 45 RPM, bought in the late summer of '66. It's well worn, but priceless.
