I have tried all of my hybrid sacd's (My Favorite, Open, Stones, etc) to play in my pc. I have a 5 year old Gateway that had a Hitachi cd-rom/dvd player factory installed. The unit tries to read them as a dvd but then nothing happens. Also, can you not burn a copy of the cd layer for use in car, I don't want to risk scratching the discs with my kids! I have tried the above discs in my van and car cd player with out problem. I noted on some other forums that similar occurrences have happened.:realmad:

They play fine in my cd-rom drive. And copying on cd layer on the PC has been no problem. Must be the sacd layer is confusing the dvd drive.

Any way around this?

If I read your post right, you also have a cd burner? Use that to read your discs instead of the dvd drive, and copy the audio tracks as wav files to the hard drive. Then burn a cd with those wav files.

I've had the same problem with my Stones remasters; just won't play in my CD-ROM{Samsung}. Should be noted that it's also a DVD-ROM drive, and has refused to play certain discs(or, play them with great difficulty in spite of my best efforts to wise them up). Also, using Roxio's CD Adaptec 4.0 burner, which was automatically put into my system when I bought the Dell computer by mail. My Collectables THE VERY BEST OF THE GENTRYS will not play, though there is no reason why it shouldn't, considering this player also does anything back to the stuff I bought in 1984!(It plays through Windows Media and RealOne, but still can't copy it. I'm new to this sort of thing, so if any of you out there can give me tips as to what to do about this problem, would love to get info.

Hybrid SACDs won't play in DVD Rom drives. With the exception of the MFSL Duke Ellington "Blues In Orbit" SACDs both Hybrid and single-layer have phony TOC (Table of Contents) written in ISO-9660 to throw off a DVD Rom Drive. This is a copy protection scheme. Ironically, an SACD is made using a DVD written layer, just differently (Scarlet book)
If you put an SACD into your DVD Rom drive (using windows), it will say "Windows cannot read from this disc. It may be corrupted...." ect.
You must play them in a CD Rom or CDR drive, if only to use in your PC.

Hmm, it must depend on the DVD-ROM drive then.
As it turns out, I'm playing a Hybrid Stereo SACD on my PC's DVD-ROM/DVD-R drive (a Pioneer 104 DVD-ROM/DVD-R drive on a Sony VAIO RX680G Desktop PC) with the Real One Plus Player, Version 2.0 as I'm typing this!
For what it's worth, I've also been able to play Hybrid SACDs on the same DVD-ROM/DVD-R drive with Microsoft's Windows Media Player Version 8.0
Works - and sounds - fine here.

I've been told that players that have problems with audio CD-rs are likely to have problems with hybrids too.

Interesting. I'm not seeing any compatibility issues with Hybrid SACDs here.

Exactly. Is your drive a combo drive? Does it burn CDs as well as play DVD? Curious to know, but if so, that's why you can. That drive assumes priority into Redbook 1st. It has to, for accepting blank Cds at any given time.

Yes, the Sony Vaio Desktop has 2 drives - a DVD-R/RW/CD-ROM drive and a CD-ROM drive. Both play the Hybrid SACDs fine.
Ditto on my Sony Vaio Laptop that has a CD-ROM drive.
