Some years ago I picked up an unusual "Little Richard" album during a trip to Virginia. It was distibuted by Audio Encores and recorded and mixed by Audio Media Recorders 0f Nashville TN. It is from their Rock & Roll Legacy Seriesc.1980 and is titled Little Richard (AE-1002), with "Direct Master, 16 Track Audiophile Recording" on the gatefold cover.

The back cover states it was pressed from 100% virgin vinyl and weighs between 125-128 grams. The lacquers were cut from first generation mixed down tape on a scully lathe featuring an aluminum coil and a helium cooled Westrex 3D2AH cutting head. Which is all Greek to me!

Other technical data on inside cover gives specifics on studio equipment used, for example: various Neuman, Electrovoice, AKG microphones; Tape machine: 24 track Studer A80VU24; Westlake monitors; Console: Harrison Master 3232C(28input,32out);etc. (more Greek?)

Others here may know more than me on this album but it appears they took Little Richard's vocals and recorded new music around them. Whether these are original vocals or LR recorded new ones for this work I'm not sure. In any case I really like this album. Spectacular stereo instrumentation. They also did a Jan and Dean album which I bought at the same time.

I also have the c.'85 Rhino Greatest Hits CD (17 mono tracks and 1 in stereo) which is said to be transferred from the original masters. Haven't played that in a very long time so I have no comments on it.

Check out ACE UK's, six CD set of the US, 3CD release titled "The Specialty Sessions"
...if it's still in print. It's in a mini-CD size box set.

There is also a one CD Bear Family compilation, which I believe are of his pre-Specialty recordings.
