Aluminum/Gold question for Steve

Hi Steve,

I don't know whether these questions have already been answered here or on the old board: Did you always know in advance which titles would come out on gold and which on aluminum? Would this affect your attempt to the mastering job in any way? I have a lot of DCC aluminum titles and I love them (the last one I got was "The Wildest" - great sound!). BTW, I got my copy of Rhino's "Sammy Davis jr At The Cocoanut Grove" last week. It's not that bad, but it unfortunately does *not* have the "breath of life". Lots of hiss and no bottom - probably not from the master? Of course this means I will play "Sounds Of 66" even more often. I hope DCC will continue to release aluminum CDs when they start up again.

Sure we knew in advance if a title was going to be Gold or Silver.

On a single artist album, I mastered it the way I felt it needed to be mastered, regardless of the color of it's skin ;)

I have DCC's Sammy Davis Jr. Greatest Hits Volume 1 and Volume 2. Both have that great "breath of life" sound, and are highly recommended. I found them at half.com for VERY reasonable prices. One might say it was a steal...

Run don't walk to your nearest music store and pick up this title. Last night I listened to it 5 times in a row. Here's hoping DCC can do "The Call Of The Wildest"

Kim's on the money. The CD is really very good. Many who have listened once to Louis Prima become a fan instantly. Next time you watch the movie "Casino", and the scat singing you hear while you see the 1st closeup of a Casino in the film, also when you see Joe Pesci beating the holy hell out of someone before his charactor gets addicted to coke...

"The Wildest" would be a CD/LP I would recommend to anyone for the best stuff he's done. There's also a UK/Capitol 2fer with the "Call Of the Wildest/Wildest Show At Tahoe" that rounds most of his best work off in two CDs easilly. Louis is one of the best artists of his day, and with Dean Martin and Sinatra, it seems that his work doesn't get enough exposure, except for movies!
