I have just read in the lastest Hi-Fi News that the Verance watermarking has been dropped (or rather suspended until further notice) from DVD-A requirements and its use is now voluntary.

Technially, it's been doing nasty things to DVD-A. Good to hear it's out. Let's get back to the music and not playing cop with copy protection. NO DISTRACTIONS. Get the music right.

The document anouncing the "relaxation" of requirements is available at

www.4centity.com in the section "Suspension of Certain 4C Audio Compliance Rule Obligations" this seems to indicate that there was a non voluntary component.

The document is written in legalise so I may have the wrong end of the stick.

Bob Stuart of Meridian (and MLP packing fame) has stated numerous times that the watermark has always been an option and that producers are always free NOT to use it.

I believe that what that document states is that certain components that are part of the watermark are no longer required.
