First, Steve,
Welcome back! I hope you and the folks at DCC had a nice vacation.
I have a question for you: A few days I found a sealed copy of Elton John's Greatest Hits at my local used CD store. When I put it on, I couldn't believe how terrific it sounds! I have never heard Rocket Man sound that good.
Then I wondered...any chance of GHV2 coming out on gold? I would love to hear the full length Philadelphia Freedom or Tiny Dancer with the same great sound.
If I'm not mistaken, when Gus Dudgeon remastered the catalog, the two greatest hits package weren't redone. Volume two still shows the Polydor label.
I hope you can give it your treatment. That way Elton's most successful period 1970-1975 would get the most successful sound quality.
I think that's a great idea! Perhaps GH2, Madman Across the Water and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road!
Is this a possibility, Steve?

I think DCC did do a few vinyl test pressings of GH2 but maybe they couldn't get the rights to release it?

Good morning!
Yes, a "super-combined" version of Elton John's Greatest Hits, Volume 2 is in the can. I used all the songs from three versions of the album, and what killed it was just legal problems; Dick James stuff vs. Rocket stuff, etc.
A real bummer 'cause it sounds really neat (if I do say so myself). ;)

Steve,
Yes, I'm way bummed out now! I have no doubt how great it would have sounded. Everything you've done couldn't sound any better! Legal problems! Drat!
Welcome back, Steve, and thanks for the super fast response! ;)
Steve, I'm sorry this issue is dead. Wish there were still some lawyers working on it somewhere.
Say - maybe this is the same reason why the new remasters don't have a GH package!?!
Perhaps you could consider doing some EJ in the future? It might be posible to do EJ in another format like SACD or DVD.... just thought I'd put "a bug in your ear"!
:D

Gary,
Nothing is ever dead, but yes, this is the reason why there is no Vol. II anywhere.
I wish you could hear the DCC versions of some of these songs. Amazing tonality, ya know?
Funny this thread should pop up. I found EJ GH vol I just about 2 weeks ago BRAND NEW in the local store on Gold CD. I had a tough time deciding between it and a Linda Ronstadt's GH vol I that I also found.
I went with Elton John 'cause the Linda Ronstadt is easier to find on Ebay.
Steve, if you were trying to give this music the breath of life, I think you hyperventilated. Just MHO, Rocket Man sounds great, but I think Crocodile Rock sounds better.

Hello Drew,
I picked up a copy of Linda's Greatest Hits vol. 1 from Music Direct two weeks ago for just $14.99. It is not a cutout. You could check their website at www.amusicdirect.com (
http://www.amusicdirect.com) (I think this is right).
Just thought I'd tell ya...

Hmmm, so I guess Madman is not on the list if upcoming vinyl releases?
Re EJ GH1: Your Song is awesome--beyond all expectations.
