I know most everyone on this board stopped living after 1979, but if you might consider for a second that some decent music has been produced since those "glory days", is there any artist or titles that you guys feel could benefit from a remastering? For instance, a bunch of early 80's stuff is starting to be remastered, but I'm somewhat concerned that these titles will never see the treatment or care that has been bestowed on earlier recordings by producers as highly skilled as Steve? I have no idea how old Steve is but there better damned be someone in training to pick up the friggin torch!!

Agreed. Also, the Cure catalog has got to be high on some record executive's remastering hit list.

It's about time. Hope they don't "no-noise" the albums to death.

How about Crowded House? The first CDs were very "thin".

Well, let's see here, I agree, Crowded House would be great. How about some U2, like Boy, War or others. Any Neil Young would be great, as would Dylans Infadels. I would love to hear some comp's of the singles from the 80's with Aha's Bring on Me, and other great singles of that era. I know Steve remastered many of these on Rock The First series, such as Dream Acadamy. Maybe some more like tjose would be great!

Prince
Bruce Springsteen
Def Leppard

Guys, I was really more into R&B in the early 80's. It is a sore spot with me because most of it was ghettoized by the disco backlash, most undeservedly. The record companies don't think they will bring in revenue, and most active audioiphiles are into rock, jazz, or something like that. Some terriffic music by the likes of Quincy Jones, Chaka Khan, and Grover Washington Jr., among others, was released during this three year period 1980-1983. Needless to say, the bulk of my vinyl to CD-R transfers have been froim this era.

I actually asked Bob Ludwig about the Springsteen catalog, and said he remastered everything in it! I couldn't follow-up on the answer, so I'm not sure if he meant that everything's been remastered, just not released by Sony, or if he meant that all the CD's were his work.

Anyway, for stuff in my lifetime that needs remastering, I definitely agree about Bruce and Peter Gabriel.

I'd also like to see all the stuff that was neglected when they came out but highly influential on the alternative scene in the 90's: Agree with Husker Du, but also the Replacements (particularly Let It Be), the Pixies, Sonic Youth, the two early albums by R.E.M. that wasn't remastered by MFSL or Bob Ludwig, etc.

I'd like to see Graceland by Paul Simon redone (I think they're going to on DVD-A).

I'd like to see Prince's stuff done, but it probably won't happen until he regains control of his masters, and when he does, I'm willing to bet they're going to mastered at some ridiculous volume.

Public Enemy and some LL Cool J stuff, though I don't know if it'll be that big of an improvement.

That's all I can think of right now...

The Replacements' first four albums have been remastered, but the remastered versions haven't been released yet. They were supposed to come out last summer, then it was delayed to September, and now they're on indefinite hold. Typical of what always happens to the Replacements.

Man, that just sucks. Thanks for the tip, though. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I know some have been done-- but I want the Steve H. treatment:

Paul Davis
Ambrosia
J. Geils Band
The post 1980 Chicago albums 16 & 17
I also vote for Graceland by Paul Simon
Also Peter Gabriel.
Steve doing all post 1979 Alan Parson's Project CD's would be good too.

Shoot...there's a bunch of stuff we could all name that has never been put out on CD at all let alone remastered that came out since 1979.

Dough, I would like to see the whole friggin' Chicago catalog remastered.

Maybe we can get the band to hire Steve Hoffman to do the honors for the Columbia output.

One recent title that got a remaster treatment, even though it was originally released on compact disc, that I was really blown away by is "Seeds Of Love" Tears For Fears. It's an import but well worth the extra cash. Makes one wonder why the boys couldn't get it right the first time?

Anything from the catalog from these artist:

Earth Wind & Fire, Jennifer Warren, Forengner, Boz Scaggs, Average White Band (Early Atlantic titles), Pointer Sisters, Isley Brothers (Harvest for the World,or Hits package), or Marvin Gaye. Of course any Steve Wonder title would be great, But that Motown!
(Sorry)I do like to dream!

I think the latest Legacy Earth Wind & Fire remasters are the best you are going to get. Ditto with Marvin Gaye and The Isley Brothers. In fact, I wish they would finish putting out the Isley Brothers catalog on CD.

Some missing Isley Brothers titles on T-Neck are:
Live It Up-1974
Showdown-1978
Go All The Way-1980
It's Our Thing-1969

What of a missing Rick James title released after "Garden Of Love"? Could it have been so bad that Motown purged it from his catalog?

There is great controversey over the Stevie Wonder CD's remastered by Harry Weigner last year. He SAYS Motown simply does not have the original LP masters or mixdown masters. Stevie owns them and won't give them up. Also, the tapes Stevie and Motown has are in bad shape. THIS has been at the heart of the debate. Weigner EQ'ed the tape copies the best he could for the remasters.

The last Foreigner remasters sound fine to me.Now, I wish Motown would get off their duff and get those Commodores CDs out there and quit giving us compilations! Switch! Diana Ross! Rick James! Jermaine Jackson! Eddie Kendricks! The Supremes! You screwed up the Jackson 5 catalog. Universal, what's the friggin' problem??????

Here's a second vote for the Alan Parsons catalog.

I'd also love to here SH versions of:

The English Beat
Rush, especially the later albums, which I think sound horrible on CD (Presto, Roll The Bones)
Crowded House (although I think most of them sound pretty decent already)
The Fixx (my pet band, see www.thefixx.com (http://www.thefixx.com))
Alice In Chains
Robert Plant's solo catalog
