This Q n A is extracted from a Ty Tabor (of King's X) interview. I thought the comments he made might be of general interest:
Q: How's the tour gone?
A: It's been amazing. And what's amazing about it is that the entire rock
industry is down hugely since September 11th. The economy was already
hurting...the drop in sales...sales were way down in the industry...but on our
tour we have defied the odds once again. It's such a shock and such a surprise
to us because we never expected this. We've actually done bigger numbers in a
lot of cities than we have ever done before when the rest of the industry is
suffering. They're saying this is the worst year for the record business in
general in rock and roll history. It's devastating. There will be a lot of
labels...a lot of people going under this year and there's just no getting out
of it...no stopping it at this point. Some distributors have nearly gone out
of business. Lots of stuff. It's heavy heavy-duty what's going on in the rock
industry this year. And for us...we've gone out and packed houses every night
and had bigger numbers in cities than we've ever had before...things like that
that totally defy the odds...totally defy what's going on in the industry and
we're just totally shocked at it and honored by it and amazed by it and just
pinching ourselves. We're just very very fortunate and very thankful to those
people coming out to the show because it has really been an awesome tour.
