I recieved an email from an old friend tonight.

Mike Gibbins original drummer for Badfinger passed away in his sleep sometime late Monday or early Tuesday morning. I believe Mike to be 55 years old this year, but I could be mistaken. No other details were available at this time...

I met Mike many times in the late 80's and at a good number of Badfinger gigs he did together with Joey Molland until about 1990. He was a great person to hang out and talk with. I'm sad to hear this warm, wonderful human being is now gone.

God Bless you Mike.

Sigh. The more they leave us, the less I see to take their place.

R.I.P Mike and thanks.

Wow. Several years ago he was a guest at Beatlefest. I was checking into the hotel with a buddy of mine, and in walks Mike right behind us. I think he was pleased to be recognized and could not have been nicer. Thankfully, my "Baby Blue" picture sleeve was handy and he signed it happily. He chatted with us for awhile and over the course of the weekend we ran into him several times. Really pleasant experience. This is a real shocker...

One of the most tragic bands of all time, if not the most. :sigh:

I'm a fairly recent recruit to Badfinger (and a very enthusiastic one); I gather they're more or less ALL dead now? How horrible.

I wasn't always a fan of Mike's drumming, which Rolling Stone once famously described as sounding "like basketballs landing in a vat of oatmeal." But it did work to good effect on many tracks...and he should also get credit for at least two lovely Badfinger tunes of his own composition, "Your So Fine" and "Moonshine."

It is a sad loss, and to answer the question just before this, now only Joey Molland remains from the classic Badfinger lineup.

I hope Mike has seen Pete and Tom once again and that they've given each other the biggest hugs of all-time through tears of joy and smiles all around.. What they went through is something no human beings should ever go through.

A very sad loss indeed, for a band that has seen nothing but suffering.

And Gates, man, you are way outta line.

And Gates, man, you are way outta line.

Well I don't think I am but since some people can't handle other people's views I have erased my other posts. If others who quoted what I said will do the same we can just move on.

Gates,

Those who appreciate Badfinger and know their history are very respectful of their past. It's dreadful what kind of crooked business practice Stan Pauley raked them through.

It's not New Orleans or Iraq, no. But the Badfinger story reads like a Roman Tragedy and continues to in perspective of modern rock acts....
