I know there are a couple of antique radio buffs here...

What is a moderately sized tubed radio with a neat classic look, and might be found in a fully functional state? Whayt might be its price range and where is a good place to find it?

Any antique piece of equipment if it has not been used for a while will have the power supply capacitors dried out and will require replacement. Antique radios can be tricky to repair because of the evolution of technology and the custom coils and parts that were used during the golden age of radio. If you are going to do the work yourself, you’ll need isolation transformer and test equipment that is internally shunted to handle the higher voltage and working knowledge of tube theory. Shop around, used radios can be found reasonable prices.

Pickering Flea Market, just drive out on the 401, east to Brock Road, go north 1/4 mile and you're there. Check out the Antique market, there is a guy with probably 100 antique radios, floor standing ones, table top ones, most of them are wood finished, all tubed, all working. They are checked out by a HAM radio club, lovingly retubed.

I don't know about the cost, though. Want me to check?

You *DO* have an aqua-car, don't you?

Quite frankly, even though broadcast radio up here is nothing to brag about, I'm about **this** close to going for a Telefunken Opus or Allegro on Ebay....

The price can often be somewhat UN-reasonable, but those things just make me drool... :D

Do a search under "telefunken radio" on Ebay, pigmode... they're gorgeous!!

Steve has a warehouse full of old radios, waiting
for orders to refurb. E-mail or call him.

I own two German Emud table radios and a small Telefunken. I like the German ones the best as many have the green glowing "eye" tube! I'd look for a well cared for Grundig on eBay. Some of the dealers prices will make your wallet spontaneously combust!

Grundig radios are awesome. My grandfather had one. I wish I knew what he did with it..... No... I don't want to know.
