Hi. The following page at CDNow lists Steve Hoffman credits on various releases:

CDNow Steve Hoffman other credits (http://www.cdnow.com/cgi-bin/mserver/SID=204647304/pagename=/RP/CDN/FIND/discography.html/artistid=HOFFMAN*STEVE/select=othercredits)

Based on a comparison with the Steve Hoffman Website's discography I suspect some of the credits are in error.

Of particular interest to me at this time, CDNow lists the following:

Gregg Allman Playin' Up A Storm Uni/Verve - mastering
Getz/Byrd Jazz Samba Uni/Verve - mastering
Ella Fitzgerald sings Cole Porter Uni/Verve - mastering
Paul McCartney Ram - Bonus Tracks Parlophone - remastering

Are these credits correct?

The SH Website discography lists the Allman LP as a Razor & Tie release. The other three are listed as DCC releases.

I bought the Allman Uni/Verve, no credit for SH evident.

I bought Ram, no SH credit there, either.

I bought the Ella CD, but I have not opened it yet. CDNow will take it back if it is unopened. So my question is, did Steve really work on these CD's?

All of which only emphasizes, Caveat Emptor! I can see where Steve's work on one label could be mistakenly credited on another label.

Or has Uni/Verve bought the rights to put these releases on their label?

Any help would be appreciated!

Too bad this site wasn't around before I opened some of the dog stuff I've purchased thinking it might have been mastered by "the great one" ;)

Now that your discography is here, I'll be checking there... also a good place to look for future purchase options... If ever I am in doubt, I'll ask before I buy from now on.

Thanks Steve!:)

DanG: I would press the issue with CDnow about even the opened CDs since they misrepresented what they were and you have a quote from Steve you can use to support that. It is a materially different product from what they advertised since they claimed that Steve mastered it. So you could argue it's the same as if you had ordered a Jethro Tull CD and they sent you NSync.

Douglas, thank you. Because of your input I think I will pursue this. I'll post here how it turns out! :p

CDNow gets their mastering info from All-Music Guide.

Wherever they get their info from they have to take responsibility for its accuracy since they are using it to represent their product.

Steve, Douglas, thank you for the good advice. CDNow was very good about the whole thing, nary a peep, just fill out the form. I got the credits on my Visa this past month. Now to find some REAL SH mastered product. :D
