The original version by Richard Harris struck me as a youngster, I don't know why. In the middle of hard rock music of the time, this song stuck in my head. It could have been that I was intrigued that the entire song which ran for 7:20 was pressed on a 7 inch 45RPM single!! By the time I got the LP it was on the re-issue series (brown MCA label) but was in an original Dunhill gatefold jacket ( I still have this incredibly silent copy). The rest of the album is an incredible song cycle of easy listening enjoyable melodies that has never been duplicated nor have I ever gone down the easy listening road again either. A Tramp Shining (that's an abstract title if ever I heard one) is simply put an easy listening fluke that has never been exceeded IMO.
