Steve: I have an MCA LP Chuck Berry compilation that credits you for remixing. Could you briefly discuss why this album was remixed as opposed to a straight remastering from the original tapes.

Remixing? Dunno. Might it have been a "Chuck Berry Rarities" volume?

I remixed a bunch of stuff on there that had been mono only for first time stereo release, and I mixed a bunch of other stuff on there because I could.

If you have been following my recent interviews and posts, this was before I saw the light and stopped playing "God of Remixing".

These days, I wouldn't even remix anything to stereo even if I had a multi-track and there was no original stereo tape (unless I did it as a bonus track, or the original mix REALLY was terrible or damaged)......

Of course, there are always exceptions: Nat "King" Cole "Love Is The Thing", etc.

And I might add Steve, sounds excellent!:D

In that case, you might want to stay away from the Both Sides Now message board.

BSN has cleaned up its act - Mike Callahan now previews everything after some mighty ugly stuff got posted by crackpots and nincompoops several months back. Too Bad Mikey C. never understood the DCC approach to remastering - hiss means not monkeyed with, and most remixes are not so good - ah well, we've all got our own brand of taste. Steve, I think you oughta give some of your remixes a 2nd chance - at least they were true to the spirit of the original mixes. Let's Dance just sounds sooooo good mixed to twin guns a' blazin stereo...

Steve--

Thank you for your prompt reply. Actually I have both the "Rock 'n Roll Rarities" (2-LP set) and the "More Rock 'n Roll Rarities" follow-up LP.

I use my DCC LP copy of "Love Is The Thing" as a demonstration whenever one of my friends asks why I still listen to vinyl. It never fails to bring a smile! Looking forward to hearing your new work.
