Here's my LD Primer at Moe's place now, it was once at the HT Forum.

It could use an update and a few edits, maybe someday...?

RB, Thanks, this is good. :righton:  :agree:

very nice writeup Rachael. The one thing I still can't figure out is what exactly that clock reference setting does on the X9. It has the video and audio settings, and somewhere there is supposed to be a narrow and wide setting. Have you ever come across those or have any idea what the clock reference actually does?

My aged brain is straining to remember. I asked this over on AVS Forum about 5 years ago, and we figured it out. I'm thinking the famous LD dude over there, TK Chan, told me. The answer is lost in a thread over there and in the back of my mind. I do remember I don't need to use it...I think...? I'll ask my bud, Brett, and see if he's got total recall on this. I'm going water skiing in awhile. Maybe it'll jump into my concious mind whilst I'm on the lake? Later... :)

The later editions of the S2 had a 3-D comb. You could stille order an S2 in '97.

The LD-S2 was made from 90-95 and never came with a 3D comb filter.

My local Elite dealer told me they were stille taking orders for them in '97. I know they changed the spec's at some point and they became 3 lb's heavier. I thought they upgraded the comb filter. I could be mistaken about that??? I was under the impression that they put the 3-D comb that was in the Japanese model HLD-X0 in the late model S2's after '94, I might be wrong. I didn't order one. :)

Had to bring this up for an update on what my old Sony was.

I've just moved into a new house over the past weekend and we are still clearing out the old one. I went into the attic to toss a few things out yesterday and found the old Sony laserdisc player.

It was an MDP-455.

Not that it matters anymore since it should be in the North Baton Rouge landfill by now.

I'm proud of you Joel. You did the right thing. I've never seen a U.S. Sony model even worth a Pio CLD-S104 much less one of their hotrods. BTW, I think that's the model a former friend bought. He had returned A Pio LD/5-CD changer because he didn't like how it handled CD's. I tried to hint to him and his wife that...well, something like I prefer the Pio pic. He and his wife both had notoriously bad eye-sight. They proably couldn't tell the difference anyway! Our falling out certainly has nothing to do with the silly LD player, of course. :)

Greg, I'm stille waiting for Brett to get back to me on the clock thang. I checked my manual to see if I'd written anything in there about it, which I didn't or should of. Brett's proably off on holiday... :)

Thanks for the update, Rachael. I would love to know what those settings actually do.

Greg, Brett got back to me and he can't remember. I think that it's to resolve lip sync issues, possibly just with Muse discs...? Maybe for all discs...? I have 14 Muse LD's and I never thought I needed an adjustment. Somebody from Hong Kong at AVS told me just what it did about 5 years ago. The answer is lost in a thread at AVS, but I haven't been able to find it. Yet???
