I am seeing the steady release of seasons of THE WALTONS, so I thought I'd see if anyone knows the asnwer to this question:
In which season does the episode featuring Merle Haggard appear? I want this episode, but I'm not buying multiple sets to find it. Any help would be appreciated.

The Waltons.....great show, it is fresh today as it was 30 years ago. They should make more shows like this one.

My favorite was MAD MAGAZINE's parody of the Waltons, called "The Dulltons."
I felt the show "jumped the shark" when Grandpa died, Grandma had a stroke, the mother went off to a sanitarium for tuberculosis, and John-Boy (the first one, anyway) left the series... all of this happened around the same time!

What about The Homecoming, the Waltons pilot movie starring Patricia Neal? Is that one available either as a standalone DVD or as part of a season set?

Yes, it is available on DVD. Got it last Christmas. Not stellar quality, though.

I watched The Waltons with my family while growing up, great memories. We really loved this show.
Not sure what season this was, but remember when their house burned down? I had awful nightmares after we watched this, I was SURE our house would burn! It didn't. I think I was 7 or so.

We just got Season 2 last week, as well - a long wait after Season 1. No "bonus DVD" sticker on the outside, that I know of. I have not actually looked at the set, but I've watched a couple of episodes with my wife and daughters. I kind of like The Waltons, the early episodes, anyway. It's the kind of show I don't have to worry about my girls watching.
