Ok its time once again to buy another cd rack for my ever growing collection. This would be my 6th rack. In the past, I have purchased various wooden racks that hold approximately 500 - 600 a piece. Does anyone have any specific recommendation on a nice looking, quality made, but not too expensive rack that will hold about 500 cds.

I did a search on the web and came up with:

Boltz CD 600 ($199 shippped)
Atlantic Penquin 644 (about $160 shipped)
and various others in the $150 - $210 range

Unfortunately, I'm not in the mindset to make my own although it probably wouldn't be that hard. Your thoughts would be appreciated because if I don't get a new rack to store my cds, the overflow will prevent me from even getting into my listening room....

I still like Sckott's racks. Simple "L" brackets, screwed to the wall with 5" shelving....

But you should probably go for something that 'matches' what you have.

Yeah. If only I knew at the time, I gained ownership of over 1000 CDs in the period of about 3-4 years. I moved between two apartments, time goes on, suddenly, the racks are expensive, cumbersome and start to "bow".

Heck, I almost got sliding metal rodie cases! Nah!

Get some good wood, both small and long wood screws and a cheap electric screwdriver. You're still under $80.00 with the brackets. I used some Stanley "L" brackets.

It's not just less expensive. I gained a nice look to my wall, which was empty to begin with, and it consolidates space the longer you leave the wood. 5 of those shelves emptied out 7 of those dowel racks, and the whole collection fits on one wall. I didn't even set the discs on bookends. They stand up well by themselves.

It's too damn simple to even call it DIY. I can't go emailing TNT-Audio. It's idoit shelving that works.

Don't forget that you can use an "L" bracket every 16 inches (where there is a stud!) to ensure even the heaviest CDs do not bow or bend the shelving wood!

And they'll never ever tip over.....

Check out the brand Leslie Dame. They are available on the web and at some retail stores. CD World in New Jersey carries them. A 1000 CD rack with adjustable shelves (I used it for DVDs and vids) cost almost $200. I had to assemble it, but for a DIY rack, it's pretty solid.

I use Boltz racks and I love them.
