Can they top Spider Man 2? It's gonna be hard, IMHO that was the best super hero movie EVER!

Gotta be The Lizard.
But the guy who turns into the Lizard is already in Spider-Man 2. Peter's teacher with one arm. I assume they'll get the same actor to play the Lizard in 3. If so, it'll be the first time I've seen that actor play something other than a pedophile or similar.
Agreed that Spider-Man 2 is the best superhero movie ever. Similar in some ways to Superman 2 with the loss of his powers and everything, but then, Superman 2 was kind of compromised when they kicked Donner and got Lester to patch things together. And I love Alfred Molina. I'm glad they seem to be going for lesser known but talented actors to play the bad guys in the sequels.
Oh, and I think The Incredibles is one of the best superhero flicks also.

Yes, but I don't know if that actor could carry a film as a villain. It's nothing for Hollywood to switch an actor from one film to the next....besides, who will remember the guy?

Oh yeah, I agree with you there. That should teach me to make such blanket statements as "best ever" in the future. :)
I'm thinking that Church will do a great job no matter what the character is he ends up playing. He has the potential to be quite sinister, I think.

Funny, but there have been several actors who have lately stated they were approached about playing a villain in Spidey 3. Can't remember the actress's name, but Larry David, of all people, apparently was considered. He could have been spoofing, but I can see him as the Vulture!

Well, fans would definitely notice. But you're right, they're certainly capable of changing actors midstream, since they considered the guy from Donnie Darko to play Peter when Tobey Maguire almost dropped out cause of back trouble.
Man, I can't see Larry David being able to keep a straight face, but physically, he'd be perfect for the Vulture...

Of all the costumed superhero movies, I'd still have to give the edge to the second Tim Burton BATMAN film, the one with Danny DeVito and Michelle Pfeiffer.
I'd choose UNBREAKABLE over either, but that may not quite be a superhero movie in the strictest sense.

Interesting. Sounds like you go for the darker, more atmospheric ones. I haven't seen Batman Returns since it came out, but I did like Unbreakable. And I liked X-Men 2 a lot. That's a good "serious" superhero film. But what really gets me are the ones that tap into the childhood fantasies that, for me, are what superhero comics are all about. There's nothing like seeing dorky Peter Parker suddenly able to take on the school bully, or the kid in The Incredibles when he realizes he can run on water. I also think you tread a real fine line as soon as you put a live actor in a superhero costume. There's something so ridiculous about it, when it's on film instead of paper, that I like my superhero movies to have a sense of humor about the whole thing.
I have to say though, I'm interested in this Sin City that's coming out Friday. Not superheroes exactly, but based on a noirish comic by Frank Miller, the biggest comics influence on the Batman films. It's got a great cast too...

Dylan Baker is a pretty well-established character actor. "Happiness" and "Thirteen Days"
are the roles that stick out in my mind when I look at imdb. I'm hoping Raimi casted him
based on potential.
According to aintitcool, The Sandman is the most likely villain. I don't think he would
translate well to film. It sounds like demo reel material for an effects company to show
off new particle tools, so hopefully it truly is a rumor. But I'll keep quiet based on how much
I loved the first two movies . Raimi's a fan of the classic stories which is why we haven't
seen Venom or Carnage or any of the 1980's stuff - fine by me.

I dunno, Sandman could work. Completely agree about Venom though. I'm also really happy that they seem to be sticking to one bad guy per picture. Leaves room for character development. Overcrowding is one the many problems I have with the later Batman movies.

Agreed.
If Unbreakable doesn't fit, Superman certainly does.
Anyone who proclaims any Spiderman as best superhero movie ever can't have seen many movies or has low expectations.
