What a great show. I would have never guessed Bruce Springsteen as being given the honor of giving the induction speech. And what a glorious speech it was. Looking back on it now, who else was better suited to the task. Wish I had taped it.

A deserving band.
Great induction speech.
Hell of a show.

Greg-
The 2005 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame show will be aired again Monday afternoon at 1:00 pm EST on VH-1. I missed the first few airings but have mine set to record today.

Thanks Mike. It's really a good show. I love U2 but Bruce's intro for the band was excellent. And he sang with them too.

There's not been another thread pertaining to this has there? I was out of town last week. Hope I didn't create a duplicate thread.

Actually, your thread is the first I've noticed about the actual broadcast. There have been severeal threads pertaining to the '05 inductees. It sounds like a good show and I'm looking forward to seeing Bruce induct U2. I read some comments from Larry Mullen Jr. regarding their Hall Of Fame induction....I'm paraphrasing but he said something along the lines of "I wish we could have waited five more years"....

Also some really fine performances, including Bruce joining in on 'I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For' and BB King and Eric Clapton on an extended jam with inductee Buddy Guy.

I thought U2 was great. Bono's voice has sounded really strong lately. It's probably the best it's been (at least range-wise) since ZOO TV.

I just wished they would have aired it less edited. I didn't like how some of the acceptance speeches were mixed over a song performance. Other than that I thought it was great.

I saw the broadcast today and I must say I agree wholeheartedly that it was pretty cool seeing Bruce giving the longest introductory speech on record. Not that I'm complaining! I loved every syllable of it Loved the acceptance speeches, and I too wondered why they overlayed U2's performance. Guess they wanted to break up the performance part so it wouldn't all be at the end.

I tried to think of another band that has reached the HOF awards while still at the top of their game. Couldn't think of any.

But, a jolly good show! Congratulations to U2.

Bruce's induction speech for U2 was great - touching and funny and thoughtful. I hope Bruce takes the time someday for some sort of writing (how about something like Dylan's new book?) He does have a knack for storytelling and insight and eloquence, not a surprise considering what he does in his songs.

Anyway, I had read the transcript of his speech the day after the show, but even that does not do it justice - you do have to catch the real thing in reruns. I was cracking up on the iPod schtick that he closed with.

What a great show. I would have never guessed Bruce Springsteen as being given the honor of giving the induction speech.

Bono had inducted Bruce, so I think there was some "returning the favor" going on in this selection. Couldn't have turned out better, what a wonderful moment.

I had forgotten. How fitting then.

I wonder who decides who does the induction speech for whom ever. The U2 and Bruce theme fits nicely, but the Ojays and that young guy....what's his name didn't make sense to me at all.

Obviously I loved it. Two of my all time favorites are U2 and Bruce. 22 years ago I named my cat Bono  I really enjoyed the way Bruce and Bono spoke. I remember Bruce introducing Dylan and Bono welcoming Bob Marley to the HOF and those speaches were amazing as well. And although he was the last member to speak, Larry's comments about The Sex Pistols, Television and Patty Smith being in [b]their[/b[ HOF was great. Pretenders were fantastic I thought. A wonderful night of TV. I have watched it twice . :righton:

Peace-

I watched this late last night on VH1. I really liked Bruce's speech, he did a great job.
Bono spraying champagne onto the band...neato.

This is one of the reasons I have a TV tuner built into my computer. I recorded the entire show & intend to save it on a DVD because the performances were spectacular & I will want to watch this show again & again. It was not a perfect show though because it started weak with Justin Timberlake who in my opinion doesn't measure up to deserve a place on stage with the greats! I also agree that blending speech & performances was a very big mistake! A show that honors great achievements in music is cheapened very much so by this act. This is also something the honorees do not deserve! They owe it to the artists & their audience to re-edit the show so that performances & speeches can be enjoyed separately & in their entirety. I'd like to also interject a small plug for Percy Sledge. He once again showed why Michael Bolton should feel shame for his shallow & poor rendition.

Too bad I missed, though I'm sure VH1 will re-broadcast it like a billion times.

U2 is a class act. So is Bono. You know, they're probably the only band that I liked despite their over-exposure. I think it's sad that they attract so much ire for no good reason. They really are one of the greats.

Yeah. Over-exposure is a wierd reason to hate a band. Maybe they're getting the exposure for a good reason. Y'think?

U2 appereance and performance at the RNR Hall Of Fame proves that they are one of the greatest bands of all time past and present.
They gave me chills.

I just taped it for my wife to watch tomorrow night. I watched as I recorded it but this time with the sound muted so it would be fresher for me later.

I was looking at my clock when Mr Springsteen started the U2 induction speech. I counted 11 minutes plus.

Sweet.

I just watched it again and timed Bruce's speech.

12 minutes and 45 seconds.
