Not sure if they're showing this regularly or not but I was up late last night and caught a couple of back-to-back episodes of this classic comedy sketch show from the early 80's. BTW, the 3rd volume of SCTV is now on DVD!

I've Netflix-ed the first three seasons, and if you've ever wondered all the fuss from fans like me was about, I'd say start with Season Three. It's where they start hitting their stride.

As soon as I got home with Vol. 3, just had to watch the Battle of the PBS Stars skit. A boxing match between Julia Child and Mr. Rogers, with King Friday as one of Rogers' cornermen?? Hilarious! And check out Martin Short as Jerry Lewis Live on the Champs Elysee--"Vous jamais walk aaaaalone!"

One of my all time faves. Too bad the box sets are out of my budget right now. However, my local library has a set!

Too pricey. When will another volume of MAD TV come out?

I wonder if Shout Factory has any plans to release the early, syndicated seasons of the show. Lots of classic material from that era!

:agree: You can't substitute "Mad TV" for "SCTV". Geez, if they're out of "Star Wars", do you just buy "Flash Gordon" instead? No "Jaws", so you buy "Orca"? No... ehh, you get the point...

I heard a long time ago that they might, depending on the sales of the first releases. Not sure what the word is now. I also hope that they release the Cinemax years. That was actually some of their best material too! The cast was a little different but the quality was unbelievable.

Hey, don't knock Orca. Isn't that the one with Richard Harris and the hot chick with the cast on her leg?
SCTV is a better, less sophmoric, Saturday Night Live. Don't get me wrong, though, I love SNL too.

Yeah, it's with Harris. And I WILL knock "Orca" if I desire - it's not much of a movie. Actually, it's better than one might expect, but it's nowhere near being in the same league as "Jaws"...

Oh hell, I know that. Jaws is one of the GREAT movies of all time. Just having some rare Orca-related fun. When I watched it on HBO 800 years ago, though, I remember thinking, "I wasn't plannin on really watching this whole thing. How'd that happen?"

I dunno, Mel. I love SCTV, but Mad TV comes up with some pretty hilarious stuff.

Mad TV looks downright amateurish when compared to SCTV. The writing on SCTV is incomparable,IMO.

..one of my favorite's next to MADTV!...did anyone else notice the outrageous DVD box set pricing?

. . . did anyone else notice the outrageous DVD box set pricing?
I believe the DVDs are high-priced because of the music rights. Because SCTV would create little sketches to surround the musical guest, sometimes devoting more than a single segment (as for John Mellencamp or Al Jurreau), they had to either charge a lot for the DVDs or drop the music segments.
I wouldn't want to be without the Al Jurreau sequence, in which the singer's vastly more enthusiastic audience response forces unfunny comedian Bobby Bittman into an early retirement. One of their classics!

I sorta figured that. I agree, I'd rather have it complete.
