Just to help start some discusion on vinyl, which do you care for on your TT while playing pop or rock? I choose a moving magnete, better bass, higher output, seems to go along well with R&R and Pop. I have tried several Moving Coil types, but it seems I always end up looking back and returning to some MM, Shure, Grado, Audio Technicas, etc.
Moving coils seem to be a bit top heavy and bass shy to me, but I have not tried much beyond a Koetseu Black MC. Most of the budget ones, ie under about $600 seem to be less satisfying than an equally priced MM. Just my humble Op, whats your?

This is perhaps an overly broad question since the sound of various MC cartridges run the gamaut of tonal balances. My Koetsu Rosewood signature would not be considered particularly bright or bass shy. But it varies with the loading as well. If your preamp doesn't allow you to adjust this you may end up with a MC that sounds quite different than it was designed to sound.
