Picked up The Jam box set a few months back for cheap on HMV.
Oh, and of course got an MCA "Who's Next" for good measure.
Clearly there is an enormous amount of material to absorb over the five disc Jam set. It's really bizarre how fully Paul Weller seems possesed by the ghost of Pete Townsownd at times!??
Anyhow, besides being fantastic music the sound on these discs is really nice. I've been using a pair of the Sennheiser HD580 headphones hooked to a portable Pansonic player to call a home stereo now over the past year. Painful cause the big screen system is in storage indefinitely. :(

Anybody with me on this one?

Carl. remember that's the "ghost of Pete Townshend".

If you like their homage, the Jam did it pretty well. Even Pete Townshend and the Who is a bit longer in the tooth, and not what he and they used to used to be!

I feel that as long as you can accept that proposition, within those parameters, the Jam becomes more understandable, and enjoyable for what they were. I love the Jam, and Weller's solo work.

I love the Who but it seems so long ago to me. When Moon died nothing was really the same with their lame pretense that nothing was wrong. I would have respected them more if they just packed it in, and gone off and done their own separate things, period. All of this "keeping the Flame" stuff is nothing but a shallow attempt to make money, and they just look foolish.

They still haven't produced ANYTHING new yet, despite all of the false starts, the first series of "superstar" revival tours. Lots of reports of fighting over the "new" studio material, and if they are smart they will be verrrrrrry careful about those new songs. It appears that they already know that, and that's why no new studio material. At least they are being thoughtful about it. Just think...maybe no more marginal "squeeze box" songs !
