Pride in ownership is a great thing, I own many GOLD DCC cds and MFSL Gold cds plus other golden eggs. It is a great feeling knowing the time and effort put into these gems and knowing they will outlast me and will be passed on to my heir(HOPEFULLY). I do not buy GOLD for GOLD or to say "I own that" Everything I purchased I truly love! When I was heavily into vinyl some other collectors used to collect to"collect"not to listen. Since the arrival of the CD, it seems that more of the music is listened to instead of collected, which seems to be a great thing. With LPs the album cover was also a work of art and I guess some collected for that. That's what I miss most about the LP format (The Artwork). Since the CD came about we are constantly bombarded with REISSUE after REISSUE thinking that the same collectors will be fooled over and over again. MAYBE this time it's a better remaster. This has to stop! Do it right the first time. That's why I love Steve's work , I can pretty much feel I own the definative version when I invest in something he was involved in. Pride of ownership to me!

I was thinking the same thing listening to a Fantasy pressing made in (of all places) PORTUGAL of "Bayou Contry". At first, things sounded great, then the ammount of horrid tape hiss and dull sound on "Keep On Chooglin'" made me take the record off.

Then I put on a DCC 180 of "Willie" and it kicked my ***. Was like it was recorded a week ago.

This will go for other stuff too, like stock-issue Polygram or MCAs that sound great, while the reissue sounds like burnt toast. I've learned a lot. Steve taught me how to listen flat, and how to compare what you hear as natural sounds to relate to and compare. Migrating to tubes kinda drives you in that forest anyways.

Course, Rock And Roll isn't always "natural and nice" but an educated ear sometimes is much better. Makes you a better person.

I enjoy listening for differences in sound, and to train your ear to hear differences, as long as some of these souces don't shreed your ears!
