I just got a new laptop that has a DVD/CD-RW drive. Unfortunately, it did not come with any DVD viewing software. It only has Windows Media Player for playing CDs. Can anyone recommend good software for viewing DVDs? Are there any good programs that are available by free download? I'd like to be able to play DVDs when traveling on business. Thanks!

Hmmm.... I thought Windows Media player works with dvd drives... Anyways, I've not used this one but worth a try, especially since it's FREE.

A really good FREE program (that doesn't have a million features you don't need, like Windows Media Player) is VLC. It's available for Windows, Mac and Linux.

Agree, it's a good one. Can you play DVDs with it, though? I must admit I never felt the need to upgrade from version 0.7.0 (which can't, as far as I'm aware).

I just downloaded the latest version to the laptop. It works great! I leave on a business trip on Sunday, and now I can watch DVDs! :D

Thanks, Keith!

I use PowerDVD. It works well for my needs. The price is fairly reasonable at pricewatch.com.
