Well having got back from two weeks of vacation (Cape Cod and Mexico!) I remembered my concern about leaving my stereo equipment unplugged :) but unprotected. :(
What do you all do when you go on vacation? Go to work? Any security measures you can share (without giving us the combination! ;) )

The above is the definitive answer folks and DON'T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT!
I've heard too many horror stories that were absolutely unnecessary and
no, I'm NOT in the insurance business.

Insurance is good - but prevention is better than cure. (From when I worked at an Insurance company I know that sometimes they do their shopping at villainsupply.com :) )
When going away on holiday the In-Laws are always invited over to stay (primarily because of the pets but it has an added sleep easier at night bonus) - I have considered some form of contact viral agent and getting myself immunised ( where's the mad evil laugh smilie gone ? )
I have been looking at changing all the internal doors in the house for 60 minute fire resistant equivalents - (primarily for fire safety) - these also have significantly better "sound proofing" and security aspects compared to the current wooden ones.
May you never need any of these - Andrew

Gary,
Next time you go on holidays, let me know. I'll be sure to keep an eye on your equipment and Cd's. Do you own a good SACD player yet?
;)
Gee, thanks, John B! Did I mention I was moving..... to Atlantis? ;)

You're welcome Gary - happy to help. Say hi to Donovan when you get there.

I think we should be more diligent in making our home secure. Many of us have updated the Audio System fields in our User Profiles.
As far as insurance is concerned, I think it is a good idea to keep photos and receipts in a safe place off site.

Then I guess one answer would be to consult with one of the gentlemen (or successors) I mention in my posted reply in the thread below :D

Living in the south, just the mention of Thunderstorms send me sailing to unplug everything.

I hear Ya! Some of the equipment would cost more to replace than what I paid.

I have burglar bars on all windows and doors, with the same Medeco deadbolts the US Govt uses. $275 each. Keys only obtainable by me with ID and signature. They cannot be duplicated. Also have extensive alarm setup that includes sensors on windows AND window glass, and all doors. Motion detectors thruout. Video recorder. (I installed all this myself, as the cost to have it installed would have been insane.) High-end industrial computer surge protectors on all A/V equipment. And insurance.

Do you live in a rough area? Tha't great protection. I'd sure like to have that setup at my home. I've never seen the "Burglar Bars" though.

So it is not good enough just to have software duplicates for back-up. You ought to store them somewhere secure outside your home. :sigh:
