I need to purchase for my elderly parents a new TV. They prefer something simple. I'm thinking of a 20-inch conventional direct-view TV (no LCD, no plasma). My research so far has me leaning toward the Sony Wega KV-20FS120. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Bump 'em up to the 24" Sony if it'll fit their space. My mom got the 24" a few months back. It looks so much bigger.

20" is all they have room for on their current stand.

That's a winner. You might want to check out the comparable Panasonic (the model number escapes me) you might not notice that much of visual difference and the Panasonic is much cheaper.
Paul, I have a Wega model KV-21FV10. The "21" in the model means 20 itīs the same, the difference is just the name of the model but the model itīs the same. :o
Anyway, it has been very reliable at it has great picture and sound quality. My brother has a Panasonic Tau, 20 inch and the difference in picture quality and sound quality is a lot better in the Wega, IMO.

We've had good luck with Mitsubishi TVs here--I inherited all three of Dad's, from various decades, and they all still work: a small 1967 black and white, a late 70's 19" color, and a 27" from just a few years ago.

I ended up getting them the Panasonic. The picture looked just as good, perhaps slightly better than, the Sony on display at my local Circuit City. Moreover, the Sony would have been too deep to fit on my parents' stand. They're very happy with their new set.
Thanks for your suggestions.

The Panasonic picture didn't hold a candle to the Sony Wega when I was looking at them about two weeks ago. And believe me, I wanted it to. Could have saved myself $50+ bucks. But, unfortunately, the Sony was just a lot better. The more I watch it, the happier I am I spent the extra. It makes TV and movies more fun. Your parents will love it. Sony does make a great tube TV, I have to admit.

Paul,
I have the Sony set... terrific picture and has been a great performer for me. It's in my bedroom and gets little use but has an incredibly crisp, vibrant picture. Shop around and dicker--- these puppies (tube TVs) aren't exactly hot sellers. There are deals to be had.
