If you listen to the Original issue of Rod Stewarts "Sing It Again Rod"( Original Pressing) not the corrected one. You Wear It Well is the absolute best sounding version of that song period!all other reissues don't come close and that was done I believe in 1985 way before all the bits and glits...There are many other examples..Geez how many of us got rid of our older cds only to find that the earlier releases sounded better! All the hype so we keep buying and buying and buying...

Mike, you know you're right. Between early CD's that actually were better sounding than the "new and improved" versions and records that I literally gave away because they were old tech, I have now resolved to never get rid of anything. My wife is gonna love this. :)

That's why I ask questions from people that judge their recorded music at home rather than listening in the car ect....
New releases are all made for boom boxes and car systems it seems nowadays.
I agree the early mercury CDs sound terrific!
Try to find the 80's pressing of R. Stewart's "Never a Dull Moment". Same sound as the single from the early "Sing it again Rod".

I'm one :(

But sometimes I don't like the original CDs - even if there is 'tape hiss and other anomalies', as I think the CDs used to say. Black Sabbath and The Doors come to mind. I thought they were soooo dull, only a professional equalizer could give 'em some life.

On the other hand ;) , I don't like the newest Doors remasters - although I only have Morrison Hotel, so I'm not *really* qualified to comment on any Doors.

Eh, stay with the DCC versions!

Yep, you are right - just a lot of hype. I believe it's a strategy to revitalize the record companies sales. They want you to buy as many copies of their CD as possible. Original, remaster, DVD-A, SACD, re-remaster (did you know they are re-releasing Lynyrd Skynyrd CDs with bonus tracks called Expanded Editions? I've only heard one - I think it sounds worse than the first remaster.......:( )

*sigh*

Maybe the vinyl people have it right!

Those early MCA titles were good. Most others were pretty horrid, as they figured that since CD was perfect, a 5th generation source tape transferred to the medium would be "perfect" too

I'm starting to think that too. Go back in a time machine and get 1-A pressings of everything (but slip in Japanese vinyl biscuits instead).
