Im puzzled can you hook your turntable directly to the soundcard(I have a turtle beach) Or do you need a preamp.....As for Software can one use EAC....or is another recommended......OH YEAH! What about cable adapter from turntable to Line out of soundcard......Many thanks Rob......

You're probably using a turntable that has a magnetic cartridge. In this case, you do need a proper preamp level to get to a "line level". There are many "cheat" ways to do it, including running the turntable through your reciever, and out to the sound card through the headphone jack on your receiver.

Depends what you have, but yes. Amplification needed. Not much for power just coming out of the cart.

Or use a tape out from the receiver or pre-amp.

Yep! Any way you can put the preamp in the middle of the chain, so you can get the cartridge at "line level". I usually take my AES PH-1 preamp down and put it to my sound card. The PHONO that's usually active for magnetic carts, is needed. Otherwize, the line will sound barely alive, and muffled.
