I'm the proud papa of this wonderful vintage Fisher. The original caps for the knobs are too pricy, so I've got these for the time being. I've heard that someone might be making the stock caps again.
A local tech in town restored it. Nice guy, does very fine work. He specializes in antique radios but was thrilled to work on this for me.
Oh, the sound. Man! I can't describe it. I just know I'll never go back to solid state again! The bass is huge, the mids and highs are sooooo incredible. I know what Steve means by "breath of life". It's here.
Thanks to board members for help with speaker hook up. It was easy after I knew what to look for.
BTW, total investment, thanks to the overly fair charges of my tech in town: Under $300! :)

My tech found NOS GE output tubes for less than half the price of new tubes. Lucky me!
The Monster speaker cable and bare wire might be temporary, maybe I'll go with spades. But right now it sounds very nice. My Tannoy Mx3's play along wonderfully with the Fisher:)

Congratulations.
Putting spade connectors on the end is indeed a good idea. Otherwise it's too easy for bare strands to touch where they shouldn't.

Agreed. If the cables were solid core it wouldn't be that important, but multi-stranded cables are better if they are correctly terminated.

Excellent score Dan! Pretty soon, hopefully, I'll be in the tube ranks as well...

Dave,
What are you looking at?
Styemaster,
Ya mean tube equip.? Well nothing right now (911) had a devasting blow on my finances. But that won't last forever and then I think I'm gonna check out some MacIntosh amps.;)

That's a beautiful Fisher! What's the power rating on it?
I see these around from time to time. I keep thinking.... I need another tube amp. Must get another tube amp. I know someone who has Fisher mono blocks..... who might sell them!

I think it's rated at 20 wpc. My tech says that it's putting out a lot more. It goes louder than I'll ever need and still won't crap out, but my room is somewhat small. The Tannoy's are rated at 89 db sensitivity.
It sounds so much better than I could've dreamed. The cool thing about Fisher gear is that it's pretty cheap these days. The recievers are getting popular, but the integrated and mono blocks have sort of been forgotten. There are plenty of bargains out there! I think that if someone's on a tight budget, like I am, then good vintage gear is a great alternative to new 'budget' audiophile gear.
Of course, if it blows up in a month I'll be singing a different tune:D

I've been thinking about a Scott or Fisher tube system for a while now. McIntosh is a little out of my financial ballpark at this time. Glad you are having such good luck with the Fisher!
