Thanks for all you help and suggestions. Just picked up (my back is still sore) a Sony SCD-1 last night. Heck, this thing weighs more than many power amps I've encountered. Describing it as 'impressive' would be massive understatement.
Unfortunately the 'little' beastie is gonna have to be sittin' in it's box on the floor until I move in a couple of weeks. So, for now, all I can do is read the instructions and get to know as much about i'ts operation as I can 'till then.
Thanks again for your help, I figure if I'm gittin' into SACD I might as well commit to the best I can do in my circumstances although a lot of people would think that I should be committed for droppin' that kinda bread.
