OK folks, today's nonaudiophile topic from the Hoosier State is: what are the most demented, makes you wanna scream along tunes you love more than life itself? Don't be shy, the more obscure the better - I wanna run out and buy these wicked wailers with your descriptions of their lunacy/genius... The ball's in my court, so here's the tip-off:
1. He's Waitin' - The Sonics; grunge 101 invented here - throbbing, relentless bass, drums having the s..t knocked outta them, screaming geetar work and a lead vocal that'd shred the vocal chords of your average human. Cut around 1965, good old Satan is waitin' for YOU!!!
2. Get on the Right Track - Joe Clay; woooof, old Joe has Mickey "Guitar" Baker bending the strings on this RAB raveup; man, when the solo hits you'd swear the strings were shredded by the time Mr. Baker is done.
3. Uptown Girl - Me First and the Gimme Gimmes; relax, the Billy Joel tune manages to make you not wanna switch the dial when it kicks in - triple time punkeroo playing, manages to sneak in triple time harmonizing, too. I almost fell over laughing when I heard it at Phil's Records near Cincinnati, made the clerk play it again and practically cleared out the store when the volume got notched up!
I've hogged up enough space - c'mon cats and kittens, forget the delicate breath of life for a second and go for the greasy side of things...

The Shaggs rule! My personal favorite is "My Foot Foot".

I sort of specialize in "bad" music...it gives me great pleasure to torture visitors with the Shaggs, or Anthony Quinn doing "How Do I Love You," or any of the unlistenable female singer-songwriters foisted upon the public in the wake of Joni Mitchell and Melanie. I certainly don't consider "Uptown Girl" a room-clearer. Pretty catchy tune, if you ask me. The best "end this party now" songs catch your ear instantly, then rips it out of your head. They ruin a mood, stop all conversation in a heartbeat and almost certainly will clear a room. Quite often, they're sung by celebrities. Here's a few that come to mind from my collection (I've left out the really really obscure [and even worse] stuff):
Today Mueller/Alice Cooper
Food Stamp Casserole/Biff Rose
Big Yellow Taxi/Bob Dylan
My Pink Half of the Drainpipe/Bonzo Dog Band
Laughing Gnome/David Bowie
Twenty-Mile Zone/Dory Previn
Downtown/Frank Sinatra (Some Enchanted Evening/Reprise version works too)
Return of The Sanzini Brothers/Flo and Eddie
Butterfly/Goldie Hawn
Wind-Up Toy/Jerry Mathers (as the Beaver)
Shazam!/Jim Nabors
What's The New Mary Jane/Beatles
Momma's Waiting/Kenny Rogers and the First Edition
The Blue Mask/Lou Reed (great album...rotten song)
I Like Traffic Lights/Monty Python
I Live in a Split-Level Head/Napoleon XIV
Apple Love/Paul Super Apple
The Thing/Phil Harris
I Just Sit There (the whole enhilada)/Sonny Bono
Equator/Sparks
How's Your Sister/Steve Allen
Sweet Song of Summer/Bee Gees
Dreams of Sexual Perfection/The Fugs
Ringworm/Van Morrison
Cool Water/Walter Brennan
Anything from the first 4 Yoko Ono albums, and most of the ones after that
Enjoy!

Yea - "No Bed For Beatle John" or any cut off the Unfinished Music - Life With The Lions LP will cause your guests to excuse themselves.
The Rhino Golden Throats LPs work good too. Sebastian Cabott doing "It Ain't Me Babe" or Shatner's "Mr. Tambourine Man" are more pain than most can bear.

Awww, maaan...how about:
TUSH, by three guys with beards?
(does no one recognize my sig?)
Pig, I thought only two had beards....... right?
Spaced Out - songs by Lenord Nimoy (Spock) and William Shatner (Capt. Kirk). A whole CD of awful tunes, including Mr Tamborine Man.
First heard it in Towers. The staff were killing themselves laughing. But it cleared out the store - even I had to leave!
Shortly afterwards Towers pulled out of Canada.
Coincidence? :p
ummmm, yes I DID buy it! :D

So you're a Trekkie?
A semmie Trekkie.
Don't go to any SciFiCons or anything but I do like the series..... all of them!
Did you know William Shatner did a commercial for Loblaws (a big food store in Canada) once? My pal met him when he was filming. Apparently he was very bitter about the original series. He gets nothing each time an episode is aired.
At least his toupee was on straight in the commercial!
Well, I did go to ONE SciFiCon once. Found a really really, great movie called Dark Star. It's the movie equivilant of "Spaced Out". Once you see it, you'll never forget the talking bombs or "beachball" alien! :D
Did I wander off topic somewhere.... ?
OK, the soundtrack to Dark Star is C&W. Awful C&W.
That's better :D on topic again!
Guys,
I'm absolutely stunned that no one said this one.
In one sentence....Tiny Tim: Tip Toe Through The Tullips.:D

Yeah, that's a bad one. Sorta Van's less ambitious sequal to "T.B. Sheets." :)
Oh, gee, thanks Dave. Now that tune will be running thru my head for the rest of the day like that Batman theme.....
Na -na- na-na- na- na- na- na- na- BATMAN!
;)
Moan................
Ok, how about the Captian and (Toni) Tennel - - -- - -SONGBOOK (like everything). (How DO you spell that last name???)
Muscrat Love anyone? Shop Around?
OK, here is the scary part:
The people who do NOT vacate the room, but LIKE this stuff???
Indie Mike, I have the feeling that we are missing the point here. Are these supposed to be cool tunes but sorta out in left field (like non MOR stuff?)
MOR = Middle Of the Road

Don't you mean:
"Nananananananana Leader!"
(Well, at least Luke will get it.)
The mother of all houseclearers, "Honey" by Bobby Goldsboro. Such sappy agony. Even by the end of the song he can't shut up about her.
I'm surprised that no one mentioned anything by Richard Harris. I heard one song of his (can't remember which one it was) that had this bizzarre vocal crecendo at the end of every verse. Fell on the floor laughing. All his stuff is horrendous but that one was a bonus.

I assume you're talking about MacArthur Park. Next to Surf's Up the most obscure lyrics of all time. Believe it or not that recording made it to number 2 in 1968 but then again You Light Up My Life hit number 1. There's just no accounting for the taste of the American public.
I don't think it is MacArthur Park but then again I could be wrong... I'll have to email the guy who's got it.
Well I like MacArthur Park!
How do you like them apples?
Why?
I remember the disco version from the mid '70's. Was it Donna Summer? I'd prefer the original over ANY disco ripoff.
Didn't say I'd buy it, did I? ;)
OK - ALL disco songs, inluding the Bee Gees. Oh, how low they fell after their classic '60's and early '70's music.
