View Full Version : Speaking of Beatles trivia...
Does anyone know the actual location that the cover of Abbey Road was shot. I have friends who looked up and down Abbey Road and never saw the crosswalk. Anyone got the goods on this one. I am actually planning a trip to the UK in September and thought it would be cool to find the famous crosswalk and take a stroll across it without my shoes....

Geez, I'd love to go back to Abbey Road. Great vibe there, inside and out!

I was there in 1996--the crosswalk design has changed. Bear in mind the original cover was shot in August 1969 when all the trees were still green. I was there in April and it took me a minute or two orient myself as it "looked different". If in doubt go to the Main studio entrance. Imagine yourself exiting the studio and look right down the street approx 100 yards and turn back around--you'll easily recognize it . If you're really into it get yourself a 50mm lenses and and a 6ft ladder and shoot the 6 shots at around 11:30 in the morning on a clear day in August from the middle of the street.

St. John's Wood is a gorgeous area. Abbey Road, Regents Park, Cavendish Avenue (where McCartney has a house) ... It's a great place to walk around. I was in London for my honeymoon in September 1998, and we spent a whole afternoon there.
It took me a while, but I did find the actual crosswalk; the directions above are right on.
There's a VERY magical feeling you can get just standing outside that building ...

I was in London in '94/'95 with my trusty "The Beatles London" book. I have a shot of me in the crosswalk, in front of the old Apple building, and some other cool Beatles-related shots.
Funny thing -- I went to sign the wall in front of Abbey Road and the pen was dry. I remember thinking that I had flown 7000 miles only to have a dry pen. Luckily, my friend who was with me had a working pen. :D
