My CD burning software (Adaptec Easy CD Creator4) is a few years old and I don't think it's capable of burning from an external source. Someone told me that I could hook my turntable/preamp to my CPU and make a CD from vinyl, but I haven't come across anything in my software that will switch input from an external source.

I know that the 'Platinum' version of the above software could burn from external sources, but mine is not that version. Should I just upgrade to something better? If so, any recommendations?

Telefunken,

You'll need to convert the analog to digital (A/D converter). Your sound card probably has an analog input at the back of your computer. But in order to get decent conversion you'll need something better than your typical Soundblaster card.

Once you have converted to a digital file Adaptec Easy Creator 4 will be able to burn it.

It IS possible to burn a CD-R directly from a, say, vinyl source with the Spin Doctor section. I've done it a few times.

Is the A/D conversion done at the soundcard?

Sure! It has to. That's how it gets into the computer... That's why it pays to have a decent card.

hey grant,

you use the turtle beach soundcard right? i just bought one and installed it and everything seems to be working correctly. only problem is im not getting much volume though my speakers. it says in the book for them to be "powered speakers" which mine are not. they are just 2 polk audio speakers that came with my computer. so, is this the problem? they need to be powered?

i hooked up my turntable and played an album through it using my wavelab program and it was picking up the db's fine yet not as audiable through my speakers as i would like. any suggestions?

thanks.

I play back all audio from the card througa DAT converter to my regular stereo power amp with Polk Audio RT-55s. I don't have any PC speakers.

If the volume is low, check out the soundcard's mixer. If still too low, try the main Windows system properties.

Trilogia, did you mean to say that you hooked your tt DIRECTLY to your sound card. That might work with a cd player or cassette deck, but the t has to go through the pre-amp or pre-amp section of your receiver to reach the correct volume to go into your soundcard.

I run mine from a tape out. So my amp "sees' my sound card as a tape deck.

Works well enough. Now to get th eRoxio Platimum 5 po play nice with the new XP ccomputer I bought. (Insert language that would embarrass a sailor.).

I use the line in. You can also use the versa-jack if you set it up in the soundcard mixer. Double check to make sure that ONLY the line in is selected. You are using CD Creator to record with, so I cannot help you there. I have CD creator but I don't use it for recording. I use either Cool Edit or Sound Forge. You may want to make sure you are not recording in 8-bit.

I have no problems with my card. Everything is quiet.

Jack, I went through this torture a few months back. Actually i had no problem after i bought and installed version 5, but the version 4 that i had didn't work at all. Make sure the version 5 you have is the updated one that has the XP drivers, otherwise you have to get a free patch from the Roxio website. It works fine now. The XP burning utility is a joke!

Check the configurations in Wavelab in relation to your soundcard. Many times, these problems are simply are a matter of something not being configured correctly.
