Just had this link sent to me this evening... at the risk of slashdotting the site, all of you vintage TV fanatics should take a look at this:

What could ever match the raw human drama of "Divorce Court"? :D

...thanks Kevin! I just finished watching it...that kid on divorce court looked like a very young Michael Landon!

JUst out of curiosity, is the black triangle seen in some shots in the top right hand corner of the screen a result of the kinescope process?
A similar triangle is on some of the old Beatle Sullivan clips from Miami?

Kevin-
I really enjoyed watching that--thanks for posting the link! :righton:
Neat! ...and it's not expensive! :agree:
Too bad it looks like they don't have or can't use the tape for Television Tape. :shake:

Great fun! :righton:
The shot at the end of KTTV's studios, that's sort of amazing. BIG studios for an independent station.
Are they still at that space? Anyone know what's there now?

Nobby:
Well, I haven't seen the Beatles clips that you were referring to, but in this case, the master kinescope appears to have been pieced together from several different video-to-film transfers, and the triangle is indeed the "corner" of the rounded monitor that's being filmed. It varies at times from shot to shot, depending how "zoomed in" they were for each video clip.

Well, if they ever want to send me a really good transfer of this film, I could fix that for them. :D

No, they're not.

Worth noting that the building mentioned in this link is one they shared with radio station KMET for a while. I don't know if it's the same building they were in when this series was taped.
I drove past the building with the bizarre white stairstep thing on top quite often as a kid with my Dad, who lived in Hollywood...

The former Metromedia-KTTV studios at Sunset & Van Ness in Hollywood have been totally demolished. A new high school is currently under construction on the huge property. KTTV/Fox11 & KCOP/UPN13, both now owned by Rupert Murdock/Fox, share facillities in new studios in West Los Angeles.
