Pick & Play via STB

Wouldn't it be great if we could pick & play any episode of any (even currently airing) TV series and play it anytime we wanted? With the availability, and the cost of massive storage dropping so rapidly that might not be an impossible task in the forseeable future.

The "anytime" model would also eliminate having to wait for specific times to watch or record. The only problem I see is they would want to insure the advertising/sponsorship went along with the programming.

Any thoughts?

While it doesn't exist yet for every show, Video On Demand is certainly a start. When combined with PVR, it gives you lots of flexibility. Here's Comcast's particular version, but most of the major cable operators offer something similar:

My wife and I especially enjoy the DIY channel/educational content as well as all the home improvement stuff that you can watch, pause, replay at will. I also really like the abundance of music videos that are available and which keep rotating with fresh content every few days.
