I got dragged to see it, but I laughed so hard my jaw hurt!!

I generally try to miss sequels (and I noticed there are several to miss coming up! Almost all the previews were for sequels) and I haven't seen many films that I had planned to see (Sideways, Incredibles, Finding Neverland) but I'm glad I went. I'd reckon there's a big laugh at least every minute.

Deniro is at his best when he has a strong talent to play off of, and this picture has a cast that is more than just talent. Dustin is at his best, Ben is too, but Streisand knocked me out, and I noticed the NYC crowd felt the same way. A welcome return.

Anybody else seen it yet?

Saw it on Xmas day. I thought it was decent, but not great. Definitely not as good as the first one IMO. I didn't like the way Gay's parents were portrayed. I think they would have been more effective and believable as a stereotypical Boca couple a la Seinfeld.

That said, I've certainly seen worse sequels. :)

Yeah, I loved "Meet The Parents", so I want to see this one too.

We saw this Christmas Eve. I thought that it was very funny. It didn't have to rely on over the top slapstick or toilet humor. I was afraid during the first few minutes that the movie was headed in that direction, but it quickly organized itself into an enjoyable and often hilarious story. Often with these type of comedies you have to suspend reality for a little while. That's OK, but with some movies it hurts my head to have to ignore the obvious plot inconsistencies. Not so with this movie. I think that Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand were quite believable as Gaylord's parents

I can remember seeing "Meet the Parents" for the first time, I had no idea what it was about or if it was any good. I laughed my *** off! I look forward to seeing the sequel.

Decent? With that title? ;)

Seriously, I think that title is just plain bad taste. Doesnt anybody else feels uncomfortable when they hear the commercial on TV with their little kids watching? Maybe Im just old... :shake:

You're old! :D

Yeah, but what about all those people over the globe who really do have the surname "Focker"? Would you get offended if you saw it in a phone book? What if it turns out to be the surname of one of your kid's classmates? Do a quick internet phone number search. The Fockers are out there!

There was a contest for all legitimate Fockers where they would win a trip to the opening of the movie.

I have the deepest respect for all the Fockers out there ;) . But it is obvious the people making this movie didnt choose the name at random flipping through the phone book. I think the entratainment industry keeps pushing it to see how far they can get. We are now basically getting the F word out in TV like its no big deal.

Man, I sound old!

Want me to grab your walker for you? :D

Sure, they thought of the name "Focker" because it's so close to that other word that crudely describes coitus! But, so what? It's comedy! It was originally part of the gag in the first movie.

I don't see it as the entertainment business "pushing the envelope" at all. I think they are just catching up to the rest of the country. I hear the word all day long, and I work with the public. People talked that way long before it ever got on TV. Call it the increasing rudeness in society, if you will. I'm beginning to see that type of language used as a relief valve in this big pressure-cooker of modern life. And, I don't care if our nation's top men and women use the word. There are more important things to be concerned with, I think.

I guess a lot of whether you accept the usage of the word depends on where you live and who you are exposed to.

And, the culture wars rage on...

Oh I enjoy a good comedy. I dont mind them using the word, in fact for a movie like 'Goodfellas' to work, you NEED to use the word like it was used: over and over again, because that's the way people talk, its realistic. But I am also a believer of the existance of a rating system. If some people want their children to be protected up to a certain age from certain images/language, they should be allowed to have that choice.

Its just the fact that they used it in the title and they run the commercial during family dinner that annoys me. If I used the word constantly at work or in a toy store or in a familiy restaurant, I bet you someone eventually will ask me politely : 'can you keep it down please?'. I have done it.

Now, where is my cane?

Deniro pronounces it as ****er. I guess that's okay as long as it's spelled Focker. I haven't seen 'Meet The ****ers' yet, but would like to.

Well, I know old women who still get upset over the word "darn". I guess they didn't like like Pat Boone back in the day...

DeNiro's pronunciation is as close as it can be but it's still "Focker."

Saw it tonight. It was ok, not as good as the first one. Has a few good laughs.

Hope thats it for this family.

I thought it was a waste of the talents involved. Deniro and Hoffman alone should make it an amazing film. You could have put Adam Sandler an Will Ferrell in this film....its such a throwaway....it does have laughs, but the kid gets most of them.

I got dragged to it yesterday by visiting family members. I liked the first one a lot, even though I'm not big on comedies based on putting people into very uncomfortable situations and watching them squirm. I also read a lot of bad reviews of the sequel and planned on waiting for it to come out on video. I went to a multi-plex, and it was maddening that I would have preferred EVERY OTHER MOVIE PLAYING. So maybe I didn't go in the best state of mind...

That said, it's not terrible. Babs is pretty fun, even though I usually can't stand her. I thought Dustin Hoffman should have walked away after reading the script, though...the whole thing made him look like a overly-touchy-feely idiot who always said the most uncomfortable things to everyone else. This was De Niro's movie all the way, and he was as good as he was in the first one. But poor Blythe Danner and Teri Polo...they were little more than wallpaper. And not to be really mean, but in this film, Polo looks like she's pushing forty, which makes her look horribly miscast as the young-ish fiancee starting her new life with this guy.

And did I forget to mention Ben Stiller? I guess I did. That's because I barely remember anything that he did in the movie, even though he was ostensibly the star. Ben Stiller is a funny guy, but they made him the straight man in this one, which is another mistake. After seeing Dodgeball and then this, I think Ben needs to go back to the drawing board and rethink himself.

I know...it sounds like I'm trashing it. It's not bad. It's just that there's a lot of talent on the screen, and no script. My wife also commented that the editing was horrible, too (and she's in the biz, so she looks for these things). I was actually looking forward to this one. Oh well...

I just read this bit of ad copy for the film on Metacritic:

"Ben Stiller's parents are Barbra Streisand and Dustin Hoffman? Fock yeah!"
