Found this story on the web. Makes sense to me, should be a big ratings winner.

'Jeopardy!' to Hold 'Super Tournament'

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- If winning more than $2.5 million wasn't enough, "Jeopardy!" whiz Ken Jennings will have a shot at winning an additional $2 million - but the competition will be tougher this time around.

Producers of the game show announced Tuesday a "Super Tournament," which will pit Jennings in a final match against two survivors of a competition between nearly 150 past five-time winners.

Host Alex Trebek called the tournament the "quest for Ken."

"Ever since Ken started his amazing run, people have been speculating on how some of the past 'Jeopardy!' players would do against him," Trebek said in a statement. "We're answering that question."

Jennings, too, was anxious about the challenge.

"I can't wait to see who I'll be up against in the finals," he said.

Jennings earned $2,520,700 after a 74-game winning streak. He was beaten by California real estate agent Nancy Zerg.

The matches will begin airing in February or March, and the finals will air in May, said "Jeopardy!" publicist Jeff Ritter.

The third-place winner will receive $250,000 and the second-place winner, $500,000.

Out of curiosity, how did Nancy Zerg do after she beat Jennings? Did she win any more matches?

So Ken does not have to go through the same ordeal as the others. I guess ABC had to do this to guarantee ratings :sigh: and that is what this is all about. They do not want to take a chance in case he lost a preliminary match.

Note to ABC - if you want a competetive match - lots of sports questions (team oriented)

This should be interesting. That Eric Newhouse guy will probably be there in the end.

That's pretty cocky...

Why? He already has a spot reserved in the finals.

My mistake for speed-reading the original post. Old age affects the eyesight second.

This is a farce. Why not have a series of brackets and the winners keep on advancing just like the NCAA March Madness. Is ABC scare to expose Ken to serious competition prior to the finals. You betcha!! More people might watch the early games if he is involved in some of them.

Since I watch only for the questions and to "play along" and I don't care about who plays, this should be fun to watch because they'll probably make the questions really hard.

The "Tournament of Champions" type shows really make me feel... humbled.

I have absolutely no problem with saving KenJen (as he's known on the game show forum that I frequent) for the finals... he's won almost 75 "Jeopardy!" games in a row. I think that counts for setting some sort of standard. :)

While it'd be fun to see him go up against all of the previous "Jeopardy!" champs at some point (including Burns Cameron, the Art Fleming-era grand champion), in terms of competition, he has nothing more to prove to anyone with regard to his mastery of the game.
