I just saw this and wasn't aware it came out today (12/29/04). It looks great and may be worth a trip to Best Buy. Here's what David Lambert had to say about it....

By the way, forget Best Buy, Amazon has the set for $83.99 vs $119 at Best Buy. Barnes and Noble is selling it for $85.99 and I have a coupon (in-store only) for another 15% off.

Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to Barnes and Noble I go........

The first - and best - season of the 'Zone, though subsequent seasons weren' too shabby either. Just couldn't get used to videotape and didn't like some of the hour-long clunkers and some of season five.

I might part with my "Collection 1" set for this.

I ordered this a couple of days ago from Coconuts.com (http://shop.coconuts.com/product.aspx?sku=40699733&loc=41159) for $69.99. If you use the coupon code, FIRSTPURCHASE, it will ring up for $62.99 with free budget shipping. With tax, I paid a little over $66. From what I have seen, this is far and away the best price for this box set anywhere. Also, Image has not been promoting it, but apparently, the first run of this set also includes a copy of the Marc Scott Zicree book, The Twilight Zone Companion. It is a fun read and an excellent resource and normally sells for $16-$18 on its own. If you are a TZ fan, jump on this Coconuts deal while the getting is good! Happy New Year!

I just found this on the TV Shows on DVD.com (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=2639) Web site. It looks like the enclosed Twilight Zone Companion is a NEW REVISED THIRD EDITION heretofore not available anywhere. This set just keeps getting better and better... and I don't even have it yet! :D

Very interested in any isolated Herrmann original scores - especially "Walking Distance."

Wow, Gary, thanks for the heads up. I just ordered from Coconuts as well instead of Barnes and Noble and saved a few bucks (which of course I need for all the "Post Holiday" spending I've been doing for myself.

Tell me about it, I've been spending too much in the last few days. Even last night I stopped at Virgin and picked up several $10 DVD's. It's madness...... :)

Manomanomanoman...I've been holding off buying more TZ since I bought the 3 laser disc packages, but it might be time to take the plunge...now!

Thanks MK!

Well,

Watched just the first episode "Where Is Everybody?" Now some may have different judgments of this, but IMHO it is topnotch. The picture is sharp! I mean sharp! You can see the tetxture in Earl Holliman's shirt, the hair on his arms, the texture in the curb in the street. The audio is also excellent. You have the audio of Rod Serling announcing the next episode, an original public service clip at the end. Nice 460+ page compendium.

You need to get this. For me I'll stop at season three: To Serve Man is on it. Gotta have that one.

although most of you bargain hunters would probably skewer me, i paid msrp, 119.99. ouch!!!! Hey, sometimes you have to do what you have to do. :righton: Myself, I have been staying away from stores all week. I know if I found it setting on a shelf somewhere, I would not be able to walk out without buying it! :D

Seriously, I am glad so many of you were able to take advantage of the great Coconuts deal. I have no idea how much longer they will keep this price, though. Usually, most etailers raise their price on the disc's release date. I can't wait for my set to arrive!

This is GREAT news! I taped almost all of the episodes back in the 80's, bought them again on laserdisk, then bought scattered episodes on DVD when they first came out....here I go again. No matter. When you watch something like these shows and compare them to what's out there now, you just have to wonder if we'll ever see writing like this again on TV. I'll be very interested to hear how detailed the audio commentaries will be and I'm prepared to get a tear in my eye when I watch "Walking Distance" once again.

Geez, you got me all misty eyed just thinking about the carousel scene

For me, it was the scene when his father realizes that he really IS talking to his grown son and tries to convince him that he needs to return to his own time or life. I loved the sound of the voice of the actor who played his father. Then again, the scene where he first confronts both of his parents at the front door of his old house is pretty powerful, too. Jeez, this box will be fun! ;)
