I took my life in my hands to go out during a (Rare) blizzard here in Virginia beach to see this film. It was well worth the risk!!!! I loved every minute of it. The one thing that surprised me is a lot of people here on the east coast know nothing about Howard Hughes!!! I am from Los Angeles, having just moved here a few years ago. I was just out of High School when Hughes died and was well versed in Hughes history. On the west coast, the man was as big as anyone can be. I remember James Beacon interviewing Howard to prove it was really him. James talked to a speaker on a table and asked Howard questions only Hughes would know the answers too!I guess the whole Howard Hughes story is a West Coast thing but this film was a lot of fun. I think they played up the phobia thing a little too much. I have read several Bios on the man and he did show a little of it in his early years but not to the degree that the film plays it up. The 2 female leads do a fantastic job and lenardo does a real bang up job! Overall a great lose your self for 3 hours plus in the theater to escape the holidays with!!!! :goodie:

I was supposed to see this over the weekend but couldn't. :(

Of course I always want to see anything Scorsese does. The extra draw would be seeing my favorite current actress, Cate Blanchette, playing the part of my favorite past actress, Katherine Hepburn.

Um....that's The Aviator...

Thanks, Ed. I was looking through the local movie listings and I simply could not find The Avatar anywhere.... :o

Saw it last night. In general very good, but there were a couple of slow spots. Cate, however, does an amazing job as Kate.

Cate as Kate was excellent, as was a well filmed plane crash scene, otherwise the movie as a whole could have been better, IMO! I've stood next to the REAL "Spruce Goose" and that movie couldn't make it seem lifelike at all!

3 hours and 4 minutes is a lot of time to make your peace with Howard Hughes.

I kept hearing this was Scorsese's best film since RAGING BULL, but I didn't believe it until I saw it yesterday. Actually, I'm still not convinced it's better than some Scorsese films since RAGING BULL, but I think it is among his best films. I kept drawing parallels between Hugh's life and Jake L's life the whole time I was watching it. I don't think any other director could have handled the violence of the plane crash scene as well as Scorsese does. Great film, and I hope it garners Scorsese the attention he deserves come Oscar time.

I went last eve. Leonardo and Cate are awfully good in it. They both proably set themselves up for Oscar nominations...? Martin done did good 'fer his self yet again. The littler parts are well staffed too. By the end of the movie even I was worried if my hands needed washing.

Saw this yesterday. Great film. Definitely worthy of some Oscar nominations.

I love Scorcese, but I can't get up for seeing this. Leonardo just annoys me so much.

gangs of new york was so bad, almost cartoonlike (daniel day lewis especially), i hope this one doesn't have that feel too.

Beautiful film! Highly recommended. This goes on my best of 2004 list! Leo and Cate are just flat out magnificent.

Just this past Sunday, my wife and I stopped and saw The Spruce Goose at the aviation museum in McMinville, Oregon. We were both quite surprised that there was not even a mention of this movie! We overheard the people ahead of us in line at the entrance also commenting that they were expecting to hear mention of 'The Aviator.'
