I recently picked up this cd. It is not listed in Steve's discography. Wonder if Steve or anyone else can shed some light on this title (I only have the disc - no front or back cover.
DCC DZS012 1986 Made In Japan
Thanks

Get rid of it post haste.
Way before my time at DCC.
I don't even think the artist really is John Coltrane.
The stock of those CD's should be burned!

Thanks Steve,
I just had a quick listen. Certainly not up to the sonics standards I am used to from DCC. Glad it was a freebie!

LOL. Yeah, and it's pretty scratched up as well.
Just curious, Joseph, but what are the tracks?

John Coltrane(?) Exotica
1. One And Four
2. Simple Like
3. Exotica
4. Tip Toe
5. H & T Blues
6. Subtle Rebuttal
By the way disc skips all over the place. Won't play through any of the tracks. Must have been buffed with coarse sandpaper.
I know it's a moot point since the disc won't play, but...
It looks like the first three tracks, at least, are by Coltrane, recorded (live?) in 1960. They can also be found on a CD entitled "Like Sonny." I don't have a clue about the last three songs, so Steve may be right in that they're not even by Coltrane...

Trust me on this.
Read my keystrokes:
"IT'S NOT COLTRANE".
I guess it could be Chuck Coltrane....
I don't doubt you, Steve, all I'm saying is that Coltrane (John, that is, not his smarter but musically inept brother Chuck :) ) recorded the tunes One and Four and Exotica in 1960. It's known for being the first recorded performance by Coltrane and McCoy Tyner. Whether those tunes are actually on the disc in question (regardless of what it actually says on the disc in question) is another matter entirely.
It wouldn't be the first time that the wrong tapes were used, huh? ;)
