I look forward to watching Darlene Love sing her classic, "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) on Letterman's Christmas show each year, but she really blew the roof off the joint tonight!! If you live on the West Coast, you still have time to catch it. You won't be disappointed. One of the best live TV vocal performances I have seen in years! Darlene Love is still a powerhouse!

I have to agree. She just smokes that song...goosebumps every year. I've got about 5 or 6 performances on tape - anybody have any more of them?

The last three years or so, maybe longer, has seen the size of the band grow for this performance. Give Paul Shaffer credit for reproducing the huge sound of Phil Spector. The horns, strings, and voices really add to the power of this performance not to mention the mighty vocal from Darlene Love. It gives me chills each time now and last night was no exception. :)

I'm guessing there will be a rerun of this show before too long.

That performance was very good, very spirited.
Dave's monologue was very funny. Loved the bit about celebrity birthdays...Jesus.

Darn - I saw the promo, but missed the actual show. Love that Darlene Love. If anyone hears of it being repeated, please keep the forum posted.
Meanwhile, I still have my "Shindig" tapes for consolation, many of them featuring Darlene with her group, The Blossoms. Time to pop in the following:
"Shindig: Groovy Gals": The Blossoms sing "I Like It Like That," - the band gets down, the gals sound great, and they show you where it's at!
"Shindig: Presents the Righteous Brothers": Each Blossom trades off with Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield for a verse of "Night Time Is The Right Time" - Darlene steals the number.
"Shindig: Motor City Magic": The Blossoms do a rousing cover of "Dancing In The Street" and give Martha & The Vandellas a run for their money.
If Rhino still owns the rights to the Shindig episodes, when will it be out on DVD, and where's the "Darlene Love And The Blossoms' Greatest Hits" volume?!

Nice performance! At first I thought "wow, her voice must not be able to hit the high notes anymore" when I noticed that it was in the key of B instead of the original Eb (which is a pretty big difference) but she sang it differently in this version and the highest note is actually only a semitone lower than the highest note in the original recording from 41 years ago. :edthumbs:
